DESCRIPTION:Help our less fortunate sisters and brothers around the world this Friday. \nHidaya Foundation will be in the MCC parking lot during our three Jumu’ah services (12:30 p.m. to 3:15 p.m.) on Friday\, February 7. \nThe collection truck staff will give you a tax-deductible receipt. A $10 donation is necessary per bag to help cover the container shipping cost to send to your needy Muslim sisters and brothers overseas. \nPlease be considerate of your donation and give dignity to the families receiving your generous contributions by donating quality used items that are washed and folded. \nThe Hidaya Foundation collection truck will accept: \n\n– Winter coats\, jackets\, and sweatshirts (for all ages and all seasons);\n– Blankets\, sleeping bags\, comforters\, pillows\, bed sheets\, towels;\n– Baby clothes\, regular clothes\, and traditional clothes like Shalwar Kamis (men & women)\, Hijabs\, etc.;\n– Tennis shoes\, sneakers\, runners\, boots\, sandals (tie laces together);\n– Backpacks with school supplies and educational books;\n– Children’s toys;\n– Pots and pans and kitchen items;\n– Tents\, tarps & tools\, and;\n– No food items since buying locally is cheaper and gets there faster.\n– No furniture\, please (submit furniture to the MCC Refugee Team at https://mcceastbay.org/furniture)\n\nPlease tie all shoelaces together to ensure pairs stay together. DESCRIPTION:For Elementary & Middle School Boys (Ages 8-13): Join us weekly for a Halaqa and hang-out session to help them make connections and bonds\, form a brotherhood\, and navigate school and social challenges as they grow into young men. \nThese sessions aim to craft our next generation of confident\, faithful Muslim men. These Halaqas are for only ages 8-13—no younger boys. The sessions are capped at 30 teens. He has also worked with the Yaqeen Institute on several projects\, including curriculum development. In addition to his extensive experience working with and mentoring Muslim youth\, he has completed Arabic studies at the Qasid Institute in Amman and studied Islamic sciences with traditional scholars based in Jordan and Turkey. \nSister Fouzia Alam\, a mother of three boys\, is collaborating to launch the Boys’ Halaqa. She has extensive experience and organized numerous Bay Area enrichment programs. \nAzmat Zeeshan Mukhtar is a local father and mentor from our community who enjoys sports and kids. He will organize the activities and bring on some other dads to help volunteer and make this a rewarding activity for our young Muslim boys. Brother Zeeshan Mukhtar has previously led similar sessions at his son’s school\, and in the past\, he coached flag football for boys at MCC.

Her desire to continue studying the Deen resulted in multiple trips back to Damascus\, interspersed between her high school\, college\, and medical studies. She was honored to receive Ijazah (authorization to teach) several branches of the Shari’ah sciences at the hands of many renowned scholars\, including many female scholars. She has received Ijazah to teach Tajwid in the Hafs and Warsh recitations from the late eminent Syrian scholar Shaykh Abu Hassan al-Kurdi. In addition to completing several advanced texts of the Shafi’i madhhab\, she is licensed to teach texts of Maliki fiqh\, Adab\, and Ihsan. Currently\, Ustadha Rania teaches online and local classes for The Rahmah Foundation\, Rabata. She is on the faculty of Zaytuna College\, where she teaches courses in Shafi’i fiqh and women’s issues in fiqh and has helped develop and co-direct the Tajweed and Hifz program. \n\n\n\nUstadha Rania is also a medical doctor with a specialty in Psychiatry. She completed her Psychiatric residency and fellowship training at Stanford University\, where she is currently on the faculty as a Clinical Instructor in the Stanford Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences department. Her medical interests include addressing mental health care concerns in the Muslim community- particularly that of Muslim women and girls. She has been awarded grants from the NIMH (National Institute of Mental Health) to research this topic and has presented her findings at several medical conferences. Other ongoing endeavors include compiling manuscripts addressing female-related mental health and medical issues from a fiqh-oriented perspective. She is the Director of the Rahmah Foundation\, a non-profit organization that teaches traditional Islamic knowledge to Muslim women and girls. In this capacity\, she also heads the Murbbiyah Mentoring Program\, which trains young women to teach and mentor Muslim girls and teens. DESCRIPTION:Join us for an enlightening evening as we delve into an introduction to Islamic calligraphy art by a classically trained calligrapher (hattat) whose works of art are created through a unique combination of inspiration\, meditation\, and rigorous discipline. \nMaster Calligrapher Khalid Casado will also lead a full-day workshop on Saturday\, February 8. \n7 p.m. to 9 p.m. | Friday\, Feb. 7 | MCC Prayer Hall | Free | Join in person or watch virtually at mcceastbay.org/live  \nQuestions? events@mcceastbay.org  \nPlease also join us for one of the limited spots at a full-day workshop the following day: https://mcceastbay.org/event/calligraphy-workshop \nAbout the Speaker\n \nPablo Casado\, also known as Khalid\, was born in Madrid\, Spain\, where he has lived and developed personally and academically.  \nAlthough he always felt a unique attraction towards the shapes of Arabic calligraphy\, it was not until 2008 that he connected with the reed pen for the first time at a brief introductory course to nesih calligraphy. Only a few days of practicing this art were enough to awaken a deep interest in him\, and he soon felt the need to receive further instruction from an absolute master who could transmit this ancient knowledge. He then met Nuria García Masip\, the renowned calligrapher based in Paris and featured in Beauty in Solitude Part 3. Guided by her\, he traveled to Istanbul for the first time in 2009 and became acquainted with her masters. This is how he started writing his first lessons with her help and with the master calligrapher (hattat) Davut Bektas\, and always under the supervision of the master Hassan Çelebi. Two years later\, he began lessons with the master hattat Ferhat Kurlu\, who\, together with Nuria García\, became one of his strongest influences. \nIn 2014\, and after having devoted himself entirely to learning this art\, he received his icazet or calligraphy diploma in sülüs and nesih styles in IRCICA (Research Center for Islamic History Art and Culture)\, signed by the masters Hassan Çelebi\, Ferhat Kurlu\, and Nuria García. \nCurrently\, he continues to travel regularly to Istanbul and spend extended periods there in order not to lose contact with his masters and to continue learning and refining his work. \nTo view his work\, you can visit www.instagram.com/sacredlinesart or www.sacred-lines.com
