DESCRIPTION:Serve with Purpose: Monthly Food Bank Volunteering \nJoin us for a meaningful morning of service as we volunteer at the Alameda County Community Food Bank. From 8:30–11:30 a.m.\, MCC community members will come together to help prepare meals and assemble food bags for families in need across East Bay. \nThis monthly initiative is a chance to give back\, strengthen community bonds\, and make a tangible impact on those facing food insecurity. Whether you’re coming with friends\, family\, or on your own\, your time and effort will go a long way in supporting underprivileged communities. \nAll are welcome—come ready to serve\, connect\, and make a difference. \nSaturday\, June 13th | 12:30 p.m. -3:30 p.m. | Alameda County Community Food Bank (7900 Edgewater Dr. Oakland\, CA 94621) | Register at mcceastbay.org/food-bank2 | In-person only \n  \nBEFORE YOU ARRIVE: \n\nOrganizing carpools is highly recommended.\nShoes that cover your entire foot are required\, preferably sneakers or boots (no crocs!). \nAppropriate clothing should be worn for your volunteer shift – limited jewelry\, no perfume/cologne\, and comfortable clothing that you don’t mind getting a little dirty.\nDressing in layers is recommended since our warehouse is not climate-controlled. This also means that the air quality outside will affect the air quality in the warehouse – please be aware of this if you have respiratory sensitivities. \nVolunteers are encouraged to bring a pair of sturdy\, reusable work gloves.\nYouth (ages 10-17) must have the Waiver Form signed by a parent/legal guardian – if it wasn’t completed during the sign-up process\, it can be printed here and brought to the shift. One adult volunteer must be present for every five youths.\n\nDAY-OF INSTRUCTIONS: \n\nDO NOT volunteer if you’re experiencing any signs of illness.\nPlan to arrive around 10 minutes before the shift begins for check-in.\nPack a lunch or snacks! We also recommend bringing a reusable water bottle. \nKeep personal belongings on you\, safely secured in your car\, or in one of our on-site lockers. Please note we have limited locker availability.\nFrequent hand-washing of at least 20 seconds is required before starting work\, at the start and end of all breaks including lunch\, and when leaving at the end of the day.\n\nIf you need to cancel a shift\, please follow this link (https://www.accfb.org/get-involved/volunteer-info/). For everyone’s safety\, drive slowly and carefully as you head to the parking lot. We enforce a 5-mph speed limit. \nThe entrance is beneath the orange awning\, in front of the parking lot.

This month’s topic is Building Circles of Support: Creating Sustainable Networks for Families.  \nThese wellness circles provide a safe space for caregivers with special needs to connect and share their experiences. She brings extensive experience in helping clients work through trauma\, anxiety\, relational conflicts\, and life transitions. \nWith warmth\, empathy\, and cultural sensitivity\, Wajma creates a safe space for clients to explore their emotional world and develop healthy coping and communication strategies. Her integrative approach draws from a range of evidence-based modalities\, tailored to meet the unique needs of each client. \nIn addition to her clinical training\, Wajma is a certified Domestic Violence Counselor and fluent in Dari. She continues to support Maristan’s Afghan Refugee School Impact (ARSI) program as a contracted counselor\, providing culturally informed care to newly arrived Afghan families.
