DESCRIPTION:“If people knew the reward in praying Fajr & Isha in a congregation\, they would go to the Masjid even if they had to crawl” [Bukhari & Muslim] \nJoin Qari Amar Bellaha on the first Sunday of each month. Pray the pre-dawn prayer in congregation (5:10 a.m.)\, followed by recitations of Surah Yaseen and Al-Wird Al-Latif (booklets provided) in unison\, community dua\, and following sunup\, Salat al-Ishraq prayer in congregation. \nQari Amar will also lead the Khatam (completion) of the Qur’an. Each month\, congregation members complete one Juz of the Holy Qur’an. Please finish your Juz by the first Sunday of each month. Sign up for Juz at mcceastbay.org/juz \nThis program is also streamed virtually at https://mcceastbay.org/live. \nThe benefits and virtues of reciting the Holy Qur’an and sending Salawat upon Rasulullah (S) are numerous. Though it may be challenging to make a habit of tilawah and Salawat individually\, there is strength in our numbers. We can resolve some on our own\, and others need help.  \n\n\n\nIn this interactive problem-solving workshop\, Sidi Masoud Qazen uses the popular problem-solving methodology called Lean Six Sigma. Participants will break into groups and engage in a Lean Six Sigma White Belt entry-level education that provides a foundational understanding of the Lean Six Sigma methodology to solve their problems.  \n\n\n\nThis workshop is a great stepping stone for individuals who want to improve and develop process improvement and quality management skills.1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. | Saturday\, July 8 | Conference Room | $20/person | Register at mcceastbay.org/six-sigma | In-person only\, no live streaming Lean Six Sigma is a team-focused managerial approach that seeks to improve performance by eliminating resource waste and defects. He has successfully led end-to-end business transformation projects\, including strategic initiatives\, operational improvements\, change management\, and cultural change. He attained Master Black Belt in Lean Six Sigma and Master Trainer in Change Management. \n\n\n\nSidi Masoud is a community member\, a scientist by profession\, and MCC Sunday School Quranic instructor. He spends his days coaching executives to improve problem-solving to bring new products to the market. He has studied Arabic and Quran with many teachers\, including scholars from the Bay. In his free time\, he tackles the Bay Area mountains with his bike and fellow Muslim biking group.

DESCRIPTION: \n\n\n\n\nJoin us for an afternoon exploring breathtaking and inspiring Islamic art with artist Safia Latif\, unraveling their meanings and how she is using art to recreate Islamic narrative. \n\n\n\n12 p.m. to 1 p.m. | Saturday\, July 22 | Conference Room | Join in person or watch live at mcceastbay.org/live | Free; no registration requiredSafia Latif is an oil painter based in California. Her work creatively reimagines Islamic narratives and concepts using visible brushwork and an emphasis on light and color. Latif has pioneered the practice of “Islamicate Impressionism\,” a novel style that is recognizably painterly and conceptually draws on the social and cultural phenomena associated with the Muslim world from Morocco to Indonesia. Latif’s work emerges as a departure from traditional Islamic art known for hyperdetailed miniature paintings and calligraphic and arabesque designs. Instead\, she focuses on visual sensations of Islamic themes\, highlighting the inherently cosmopolitan nature of Islam and conveying a sense of wonder and beauty. \n\n\n\nLatif earned an MA in Middle Eastern Studies and began a Ph.D. in religion\, focusing on the notion of piety as a form of social capital for Muslim women in the medieval world. Though she enjoyed academia\, she was always drawn to art and decided instead to use her knowledge of Islamic history to inform a meaningful body of work. Her paintings reflect a personal openness to faith\, likely owing to her diasporic background as the daughter of an American Russian Jewish convert to Islam and a Pakistani Muslim immigrant. \n\n\n\nQuestions? events@mcceastbay.org \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
