SUMMARY:Navigating Generational Trauma | Dr. Omar Reda
DESCRIPTION:https://youtu.be/0_y0-TxcrF4\n\n\n\n\nJoin us for a Saturday afternoon with Dr. Omar Reda\, a Harvard-trained trauma expert\, to gain valuable insights and guidance on generational trauma and learn practical ways to overcome and break the cycles of trauma in our families. \n\n\n\nSaturday\, August 5 | 10 a.m. to noon | MCC Prayer Hall | Join in person or watch live at mcceastbay.org/live \n\n\n\nSponsored by Averroes High School and MCC East Bay. \n\n\n\n\n\nDr. Omar Reda is a board-certified psychiatrist\, Harvard-trained trauma expert\, humanitarian\, and author who’s devoted much of his career to helping people recover from psychological trauma. Trained as a medical doctor in his home country of Libya\, Dr. Reda found himself about to be jailed for engaging in humanitarian activities\, fleeing the country in 1999. After settling in the US\, he trained at Harvard and the University of Tennessee. Considered a “global trauma expert\,” Dr. Reda has consulted for the UN and WHO and has extensive experience working with survivors of all kinds of trauma (with a soft spot in his heart for children and refugees). He works on breaking family cycles of trauma through the Untangled model of care used in communities across the USA and abroad. His latest book\, “The Wounded Healer” (W.W. Norton & Company\, 2022)\, calls upon healers to break free from the cycles of secrecy\, toxic stress\, and silent suffering to continue to empower and inspire those in their care. \nDr. Reda leads the Daughter Father Bonding Project\, a family healing project designed to bond daughters and their fathers. This relationship is scary; both daughters and fathers deserve to heal and strengthen their bond by opening channels of communication and building bridges of trust. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

The best of them in jahiliyya are the best of them in Islam if they gain fiqh (understanding).” We should not see in ourselves and others what is immediately apparent but rather look for the potential that can be attained. This potential is unlocked through knowledge of Islam.”Rami Nsour was born in Amman\, Jordan\, and moved to the United States at the age of 9. During his college years\, he attended classes taught by shuyukh in the San Francisco Bay Area\, notably Shaykh Khatri bin Bayba\, Shaykh Abdullah bin Ahmedna\, and Shaykh Hamza Yusuf. What would happen to our teaching if we incorporated some elements from the example of Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم ? \n\n\n\nWe can all become better teachers\, no matter what stage of life we are in or in what capacity we are teaching. We can continually enhance our ability to be sincere and effective teachers by learning from his methods. \n\n\n\nEven if we don’t see teaching as an aspect of our lives\, we can also grow closer to the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم by knowing him better.ABOUT TAYBAWE SERVE THE FORGOTTEN BELIEVERSIn prisons across America\, nearly 1 in 10 prisoners turn to Islam to start a new life and rekindle their relationship with God. But access to learning the deen is scarce behind bars\, and anti-Muslim prejudice is common. \n\n\n\nTayba Foundation is one of the few American organizations serving Muslims in prison nationwide. We offer a comprehensive Islamic curriculum to both help new converts cover the essentials of their faith and dedicated students to reach a level where they can become teachers in local communities. \n\n\n\nTayba also offers programs to help incarcerated Muslims overcome challenges from their past\, such as trauma\, addiction\, mental health disorders\, etc. \n\n\n\nTo learn more about our work and support your incarcerated brothers and sisters\, head to:www.taybafoundation.org 510.952.9683 \n\n\n\ninfo@taybafoundation.org
