His academic writing includes Islam through Western Eyes: From the Crusades to the War on Terrorism (Columbia University Press\, 2012) and contributions to The Oxford Encyclopedia of  Philosophy\, Science\, and Technology in Islam and other edited volumes. His trade and academic work share a common thread: the search for the social bases of human thought and the accompanying consequences for our understanding of the world.Lyons has a doctorate in sociology from Monash University\, Melbourne\, Australia\, and an undergraduate degree from Wesleyan University. DESCRIPTION:In American politics\, refugee policy has become a wedge issue. He recently published his first book\, titled “Refugee Resettlement in the U.S” (Cognella Academic Publishing). He grew up in Chicago as the child of Indian immigrants and reverted to Islam in 2006. \n\n\n\nHe is an assistant professor of political science at Canisius University in Buffalo\, NY. He received his Ph.D. from the University of California at Santa Barbara. He visits the San Francisco Bay Area frequently. His wife Lizette Duran is MCC’s Convert Care Coordinator.
