SUMMARY:The History and Heritage of Arabic Calligraphy | Master Calligrapher Khalid Casado
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an enlightening evening as we delve into an introduction to Islamic calligraphy art by a classically trained calligrapher (hattat) whose works of art are created through a unique combination of inspiration\, meditation\, and rigorous discipline. \nMaster Calligrapher Khalid Casado will also lead a full-day workshop on Saturday\, February 8. \n7 p.m. to 9 p.m. | Friday\, Feb. 7 | MCC Prayer Hall | Free | Join in person or watch virtually at mcceastbay.org/live  \nQuestions? events@mcceastbay.org  \nPlease also join us for one of the limited spots at a full-day workshop the following day: https://mcceastbay.org/event/calligraphy-workshop \nAbout the Speaker\n \nPablo Casado\, also known as Khalid\, was born in Madrid\, Spain\, where he has lived and developed personally and academically.  \nAlthough he always felt a unique attraction towards the shapes of Arabic calligraphy\, it was not until 2008 that he connected with the reed pen for the first time at a brief introductory course to nesih calligraphy. Only a few days of practicing this art were enough to awaken a deep interest in him\, and he soon felt the need to receive further instruction from an absolute master who could transmit this ancient knowledge. He then met Nuria García Masip\, the renowned calligrapher based in Paris and featured in Beauty in Solitude Part 3. Guided by her\, he traveled to Istanbul for the first time in 2009 and became acquainted with her masters. This is how he started writing his first lessons with her help and with the master calligrapher (hattat) Davut Bektas\, and always under the supervision of the master Hassan Çelebi. Two years later\, he began lessons with the master hattat Ferhat Kurlu\, who\, together with Nuria García\, became one of his strongest influences. \nIn 2014\, and after having devoted himself entirely to learning this art\, he received his icazet or calligraphy diploma in sülüs and nesih styles in IRCICA (Research Center for Islamic History Art and Culture)\, signed by the masters Hassan Çelebi\, Ferhat Kurlu\, and Nuria García. \nCurrently\, he continues to travel regularly to Istanbul and spend extended periods there in order not to lose contact with his masters and to continue learning and refining his work. \nTo view his work\, you can visit www.instagram.com/sacredlinesart or www.sacred-lines.com

SUMMARY:Monthly Mawlid Al Habib | Celebratory Gathering of Salutations on Our Beloved Prophet ﷺ

This recognition enlightens us and deepens our knowledge of his teachings. \n\n– Past mawlid celebrations at MCC: http://mcceastbay.org/mawlid\n\nAbout the Book\, “The Kingdom of the Heart”\n“Within every human being is a Kingdom. The heart is the ruler of this Kingdom\, and the rest of the body are its subjects. If the heart rules with justice and excellence\, the body will perform good actions\, and the Kingdom will flourish. If\, however\, the heart neglects its duties\, the body will disobey Allah s and the entire Kingdom will suffer the consequences. Allah ﷻ made this Kingdom so crucial that through it the eternal and everlasting dominion of the next life is either gained or lost.” The Kingdom of the Heart by Habib ‘Umar Bin Hafiz gives the reader a deeper understanding of the importance of cultivating the spiritual kingdom of the heart. Readers will gain a deeper appreciation into how outward actions have spiritual consequences. Some of the topics covered are: • The Tongue & Its Effects • Looking at Creation with Love & Mercy • The Impact of Shaking Hands • Attending to the Ending of Our Lives • The Impact of Intention This book uniquely shows the direct correlation between outward actions and the heart\, giving us insights into how various actions impact the state of our hearts. Ultimately\, it gives us a way to internalize the wisdom and purpose of acts of devotion\, resulting in the purification of the heart and nearness to Allah ﷻ. \nAbout the Author\nHabib Umar bin Hafiz (Arabic: حبيب عمر بن حفيظ\, romanized: Ḥabīb ʿUmar bin Ḥafīẓ; Arabic pronunciation: [ħabiːb ʕumar bin ħafiːðˤ]; born 27 May 1963) is a Yemeni Sunni and Sufi Islamic scholar\, teacher\, and founder and dean of Dar al-Mustafa Islamic seminary.[3] He is also a Supreme Advisory Council member for the Tabah Foundation in Abu Dhabi. \nUstadh Tariq Samady\nUstadh Tariq Samady is a native of the Bay Area with roots hailing from the ancient city of Kabul. He is a lifelong seeker of Islamic knowledge\, learning from a wide range of Muslim scholars – local and international. With blessings from his teachers\, he has contributed to various educational programs and gatherings of dhikr. \nHis research and editing interests span Qur’an and Hadith commentaries\, Philology\, Spirituality\, and Persian Poetry. Tariq is the founder of Circles of Light (حلق النور)\, a fledgling educational initiative focused on sharing sacred learnings and wisdom for the benefit of the community. He studied Computer Science at California State University – East Bay and has over ten years of experience as a Developer and Analytics QA Engineer. \nAbout Circles of Light\nCircles of Light is a fledgling educational initiative focused on sharing sacred learnings and wisdom for the benefit of the community\, meant to assist in maximizing Dunya (this life) for our Deen (Faith). He gives wisdom to whomever He wills. Whoever is given wisdom has been given much good. But none pays heed except those with insight. (Quran). We are motivated by the words of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him); the most beloved people to Allah are those most beneficial to the people. (Hadith). We seek to achieve this aim through our in-person educational programs and publications. \nAlmighty Allah ﷻ directs us in Sūratul Aḥzāb\, “Verily\, Allah and His Angels send blessings on the Messenger of Allah. You who believe invoke blessings on him and salute him with a worthy salutation.” Our purpose of invoking blessings upon the Beloved ﷺ leads to proximity to Almighty Allah ﷻ by obeying this command while simultaneously fulfilling our rights upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. It is crystal clear how vital the invocation of Ṣalawāt is for the believer\, and it is a Mercy of Almighty Allah ﷻ for its rewards to be multitudinous. Abundant Ṣalawāt upon the Beloved ﷺ leads to loving him and knowing his beautiful qualities. By that virtue\, degrees of purity are realized. From the signs of the people of the Sunnah is sending Ṣalawāt upon him\, for the key to all goodness is Ṣalawāt upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. \n\n– More Sidi Tariq Samady: http://mcceastbay.org/tariq\n– More Tri-Valley and East Bay Mawlid celebrations: https://mcceastbay.org/mawlid\n– More about celebrating the Prophet (peace be upon him)’s day of birth: https://seekersguidance.org/answers/general-counsel/innovation-bida-and-celebrating-the-prophets-birthday-mawlid\n– More sessions about “The Kingdom of the Heart”: http://mcceastbay.org/kingdom

He is a Canadian-Egyptian authority who interprets the Quran. He was a member of the first team that translated the Ramadan night prayers (Tarawîḥ) live from the Sacred Mosque in Mecca and the Prophet’s Mosque in Medina (2002-2005). Khattab memorized the entire Quran at a young age and later obtained a professional ijâzah in the Ḥafṣ style of recitation with a chain of narrators going all the way to Muḥammad. He received his PhD\, M.A.\, and B.A. in Islamic Studies in English with Honors from Al-Azhar University’s Faculty of Languages & Translation. He lectured on Islam at Clemson University (OLLI Program\, 2009–2010)\, held the position of Lecturer at Al-Azhar University for over a decade starting in 2003\, and served as the Muslim Chaplain at Brock University (2014-2016). He is a Canadian Council of Imams member and a Fulbright Interfaith Scholar. He has served as an Imam in the US and Canada since 2007. He is the translator of The Clear Quran Series (2015)\, the author of The Clear Quran Series for Kids (2020)\, Shukran (an illustrated story for children\, 2020)\, The Clear Quran Series Dictionary (2021)\, The Nation of Islam (2011) and Outfoxing Fox News (2017)\, and contributor to the Encyclopedia of Muslim American History (2010). \n\nAbout the Translation:\nIt is pleasant to read\, easy to understand\, and noted for its clarity\, accuracy\, eloquence\, and flow. Approved by Al-Azhar and endorsed by the Al-Furqaan Foundation and The Canadian Council of Imams. About the Translation: For a translation to do justice to the Quran and capture its elegance and vigor\, it has to be accurate\, smooth\, eloquent\, and accessible. Unlike most popular translations\, The Clear Quran masterfully passes on all counts. To achieve accuracy\, the translator has used the most significant and most celebrated works of old and modern tafsir (Quran commentaries) and shared the work with several imams in North America for feedback and insight. For clarity\, every effort has been made to select easy-to-understand words and phrases that reflect the beauty\, flow\, and power of the original text. Along with informative footnotes and surah (chapter) introductions\, verses have been grouped and titled based on their themes to understand better the chapters\, their main concepts\, and internal coherence. Thanks to our dedicated team of scholars\, editors\, and proofreaders\, we believe that what you are holding is now the finest translation of the Final Revelation.

\nQuestions? events@mcceastbay.org \n

SUMMARY:Skygazing for Ramadan Moon
DESCRIPTION:Revive the Sunnah to go outside and look for the new crescent moon in the evening sky that will mark the beginning of Ramadan. \n\n\n\nJoin us in the MCC parking lot after Maghrib sunset prayers (6:04 p.m.) on Friday\, February 28\, and join in the excitement when the young crescent moon (hilal) ushers in the Holy Month of Ramadan. The Tri-Valley Stargazers will be in the parking lot (weather permitting) with high-visibility telescopes\, allowing us to peer into the night sky at 6 p.m. \n\n\n\n\n\n523 Southern Halal BBQ food truck will sell dinners\, and Habibi’s Falooda provide dessert from 5 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. \n\n\n\nMCC adheres to the traditional principle that Islamic lunar months begin and end based on confirmed\, verified naked-eye sightings of the new crescent moon globally. MCC will confirm the start of Ramadan on the evening of February 28 in its newsletter (subscribe at https://mcceastbay.org/newsletter). \n\n\n\n\n\n\n– If the moon is sighted (likely)\, the first night of Taraweeh will be after Isha (8 p.m.) on Friday\, February 28\, 2025\, and the first day of fasting will be Saturday\, March 1\, 2025.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n– If the moon is not sighted (unlikely)\, the first night of Taraweeh will be after Isha (8 p.m.) on Saturday\, March 1\, 2025\, and the first day of fasting will be Sunday\, March 2\, 2025.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe MCC website (mcceastbay.org) and the MCC’s automated phone menu (925-485-1786) will announce the start of Ramadan by about 7:15 p.m. on Friday\, February 28. \n\n\n\nSince sunset will be at 6:04\, we will likely be able to see the new moon by about 6:35 p.m. \n\n\n\nMCC observes the beginning and end of lunar months following the sighting of the crescent moon. Please watch this video to explain. \nQuestions? events@mcceastbay.org \n\n\n\nThe du’a to recite if the crescent is sighted: \n\n\n\nاللَّهُمَّ أَهِلَّهُ عَلَيْنَا بِالأَمْنِ وَالإِيمَانِ، والسَّلامَةِ والإِسْلامِ، وَالتَّوْفِيقِ لِمَا تُحِبُّ وَتَرْضَى، رَبُّنَا وَرَبُّكَ اللهُ \n\n\n\nAllaahumma ahillahu ‛alaynaa bil-amni wal-eemaani\, was-salaamati wal-islaami\, wat-tawfeeqi limaa tuḥibbu watarḍaa\, rabunaa wa rabbuk-allaahu- \n \n\n\nO Allah\, let the crescent loom above us in peace and faith\, safety and Islam\, and in agreement with all that You love and pleases You. Our Lord and your Lord is Allah. \n \n\n\n(Source: Sunan Al- Tirmidhi) \n\n\n\nQari Amar Bellaha will also be in the Hayward Hills this Wednesday evening to see the crescent moon. If sighted\, he will read the special dua from high atop the hills and head down to lead the Taraweeh prayers on Wednesday at 9 p.m. He will be live streaming his moonsighting atop the Hayward Hills at https://mcceastbay.org/live \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n
