SUMMARY:Story of Revelation: Introduction to the Quran
DESCRIPTION:Get inspired and develop a yearning for the book of Allah (swt) by learning the sciences of the Qur’an with Ustadh Basil Farooq from Kitaab Academy. Join us as we delve into major topics about the Quran\, including its definition\, names and meanings\, nature of revelation\, and modes of revelation. \n\n\n\nFriday\, January 19\, 2024 | 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. | MCC Prayer Hall | Join in person or watch live at mcceastbay.org/live \n\n\n\nAbout Ustadh Basil \n\n\n\nUstadh Basil grew up in the UAE and the Bay Area. He completed his memorization of the Quran at the age of 14. Later\, he completed his study of the ten canonical qirā’āt of the Quran and received authorization (ijāza) to transmit and teach them at Recite with Love. He completed BAs in Economics and Applied Mathematics from UC Berkeley in 2019 and worked full-time as an economist in the antitrust litigation industry. \n\n\n\nHe has pursued higher Islamic education for over five years and is currently an ‘Alimiyyah student at Qalam Institute in Dallas. He has studied Tafsīr\, Hadith\, Fiqh (Shāfi’ī and Hanafī)\, Usul al-Fiqh\, ‘Aqīda\, Tajwīd\, ‘Ulum al-Qur’an and Arabic Literature. He is also conducting research and writing on various topics within Quranic Studies and Tafsīr under the guidance of his teachers. He recently published a short book titled “Within its Depths: How the Canonical Recitations Affect the Meaning of the Qur’an.”

He embarked on a lifelong journey exploring human health. \n\n\n\nHis educational foundation in agricultural engineering and marketing set the stage for a career in various health and health food industries\, from selling medical equipment to vitamins and supplements to ultimately leading to a profound realization about the essence of well-being: quality food. \n\n\n\nInspired by the Prophetic Hadith\, who said that “the stomach is the house of diseases\, and prevention is the best medicine\,” Fahim dedicated himself to providing the highest quality food to the Muslim community. \n\n\n\nHis commitment extended to help source fresh organic meat and produce from local farmers to create a tangible impact on people’s health. \n\n\n\nObserving the transformative effects of his work\, Fahim intensified his efforts to help those in need of essential\, health-conscious foods.  \n\n\n\nAs he posed critical questions about the connection between ethical food choices and health\, he pondered the stark difference between factory-farmed products and locally sourced\, ethical\, and organic alternatives. \n\n\n\nFahim founded BlossomPure Organic\, an eco-certified halal organic\, grass-fed meat and poultry company\, in 2002 in Ontario\, Canada.

After finishing his bachelor’s in Psychology at 19\, he traveled to Cape Town\, SA\, and completed formal seminary training. He returned to the USA and completed his M.A. in Islamic Studies and Leadership at Bayan’s foremost accredited Muslim graduate school. His thesis topic was “Re-forming Islamic Reform: Ma’loom min al-Dīn bil Darūrah\, the Theology of Law\, and the Epistemological Limits of Ijtihād.” \n\n\n\nHis academic interests and love of community work led him to community psychology\, where he is a doctoral candidate and researcher. He co-founded Itqaan Institute\, a premier Qur’an learning institute led by his father. He is co-founder and instructor of Pillars Seminary—a part-time institute that aims to provide the general public with formal\, balanced\, and structured training in Islam. Most recently\, with his father and Shaykh Ismail Bowers\, he established Shifaa Community\, a virtual intentional community that promotes holistic wellness and structured religious guidance.
