He received his Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania and has taught at the University of Texas at Austin\, Indiana University\, Wayne State University\, and the University of Michigan. \nHe is the author of several books and has contributed to several publications. The Religion Newswriters Foundation’s ReligionLink lists Dr. Jackson among the top ten experts on Islam in America. The Royal Islamic Strategic Studies Center in Amman\, Jordan\, named him among the 500 most influential Muslims in the world. \nUstadh Ubaydullah Evans\nResident Scholar\, ALIM \nUstadh Evans is ALIM’s first scholar-in-residence. He converted to Islam while in high school. Evans has studied at Chicagoland’s Institute of Islamic Education (IIE) in Tarim\, Yemen\, and Al-Azhar University in Cairo\, Egypt\, where he is the first African-American to graduate from its Shari’a program. Ustadh Ubaydullah also instructs with the Ta’leef Collective and the Inner-City Muslim Action Network (IMAN). As the ALIM Scholar-in-Residence\, Ustadh Ubaydullah is a core instructor at the ALIM Summer Program. He teaches the History of Islamic Law\, Shama’il\, and Aphorisms of Ibn Ata’illah\, along with other courses. \nFor over 25 years\, ALIM (American Learning Institute for Muslims) has had its Annual Summer Program\, a month-long learning intensive focused on increasing Islamic literacy. \nSince 2000\, ALIM has held its Winter Program\, designed for working Muslim professionals. Principal scholars include Dr. Sherman Jackson\, Dr. Muneer Fareed\, Ustadh Ubaydullah Evans\, and Sheikh Ali Suleiman Ali. Additional instructors over the years have included Imam Zaid Shakir\, Dr. Umar Farooq Abdullah\, Imam Siraj Wahhaj\, Dr. Zainab Al Ansari\, and others.
