SUMMARY:Zakat & Fasting for Children
DESCRIPTION:Children’s Author Aisha Gray Henry\, the charismatic founder of the Ghazali’s Children Project\, talks to our children about the timeless teachings of Al Ghazali in this two-part pre-Ramadan workshop series: \n\nApril 2: the special things about fasting that you never knew\nApril 9: a surprise story about how children can participate in Zakat (charity)\n\nSundays | 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. | Free | Register at mcceastbay.org/ghazali \nSponsored by Fons Vitae and MCC \nWatch: ‘Polishing the Heart’ – a major new documentary on the Ghazali Children’s Project documentary and Muslim children’s education. \n\nTrailer:  (2 mins) YouTube.com/watch?v=Czwvo-pERRk\nDocumentary:  (29 mins) https://conta.cc/3bHoUh2\nhttps://youtu.be/Sly38fCkeb0\nMore Sister Virginia Gray Henry: https://mcceastbay.org/aisha\n\nParents are encouraged to join with their children. Children of any age may join. The sessions are especially recommended for children 6 to 9. Sr. Aisha also highly encourages parents to have “The Book of Knowledge for Children” on hand during these sessions. Purchase the series here. \nShaykh Hamza Yusuf says about this book: “This work can help our Muslim children have a more humane and universal understanding of the ethics and teachings of Islam through Imam al-Ghazali. I believe the work is highly relevant and very likely life-altering for those who will be exposed to it early.” \n\nWatch Sister Aisha’s visit to the MCC Sunday School here.\n\nAbout the Author\nAisha Gray-Henry is the Founder and Director of the charitable foundation and publishing company Fons Vitae. Fons Vitae is currently engaged in the monumental task of bringing out Ghazali’s Ihya in readable English for parents and teachers as well as adapting it to accommodate children’s workbooks\, school curricula\, and an instructional DVD. The Book of Knowledge and The Principles of the Creed educational sets are available and in use internationally with Purity and Prayer nearing completion. Included is a children’s interactive website www.GhazaliChildren.org\, a pilot school project and prison program. Translations into Urdu\, Arabic\, and Malay are underway. The Fons Vitae Ghazali Project has been launched with great acclaim in Morocco\, Canada\, Indonesia\, England\, and the USA so far. \nWho is Al Ghazali?\nAn alchemist is a person who can create gold from base metals. It is a quest as old as legend. The truth is that alchemy exists\, but not of base metals\, but of the human heart. \nImam al-Ghazali (1058-1111 CE) is probably one of the greatest alchemists of all time. And in an epoch where the human condition is in its direst straits\, never more has there been a need for the chemistry of Imam al-Ghazali. \nA theologian\, jurist\, philosopher\, mystic and polymath\, Abu Hamid Muhammad ibn Muhammad al-Ghazali is not only ranked amongst Islam’s finest scholars\, but is one of mankind’s finest students of the human condition. Known as Algazel to the mediaeval world\, he was born in Tus\, the Khorasan province of ancient Persia. \nWhen he had the academic world at his feet in his early thirties\, he spurned fame and fortune to go into a mode of self-denial and spiritual seclusion that lasted for many years. \nAlready an acknowledged master of Holy Law\, he re-entered society a practiced Sufi – a true gnostic. A genius\, Imam al-Ghazali was fully proficient in Greek and Roman philosophy\, and he debunked its central tenets\, proving that Revelation was always going to be superior to human reason. Human thinking could never evolve\, he wrote\, in an existential vacuum. \nIt was all of this that prompted him to write his magnus-opus\, the Ihya ‘Ulumad-Din (the Revival of the Religious Sciences). It is today regarded as one of the classic works on the human psyche. In the Ihya the author explains step-by-step how to turn one’s base instincts and desires into the golden ideal. \nToday’s modern world – devolved of spirituality and fraught with destructive ills such as materialism\, multi-national greed and violence – is in need of people like Imam al-Ghazali. This is because Imam al-Ghazali teaches a way to balance the body and the soul\, thus allowing us to reconcile modernity with spirituality in its very broadest\, and most universal\, sense. Fons Vitae is currently engaged in the monumental task of bringing out Ghazali’s Ihya in readable English for parents and teachers and adapting it to accommodate children’s workbooks\, school curricula\, and an instructional DVD. The Book of Knowledge and The Principles of the Creed educational sets are available and used internationally\, with Purity and Prayer nearing completion. Included is a children’s interactive website\, HTTP://GhazaliChildren.org\, a pilot school project\, and a prison program. Translations into Urdu\, Arabic\, and Malay are underway. The Fons Vitae Ghazali Project has been launched with great acclaim in Morocco\, Canada\, Indonesia\, England\, and the USA. \nWho is Al Ghazali?\nAn alchemist is a person who can create gold from base metals. It is a quest as old as legend. The truth is that alchemy exists\, but not of base metals\, but of the human heart. \nImam al-Ghazali (1058-1111 CE) is probably one of the greatest alchemists ever. And in an epoch where the human condition is in its direst straits\, never more has there been a need for the chemistry of Imam al-Ghazali. \nA theologian\, jurist\, philosopher\, mystic\, and polymath\, Abu Hamid Muhammad ibn Muhammad al-Ghazali is not only ranked amongst Islam’s finest scholars but is one of mankind’s finest students of the human condition. Known as Algazel to the medieval world\, he was born in Tus\, the Khorasan province of ancient Persia. \nWhen he had the academic world at his feet in his early thirties\, he spurned fame and fortune to go into a mode of self-denial and spiritual seclusion that lasted for many years. \nAlready an acknowledged master of Holy Law\, he re-entered society as a practiced Sufi – a true gnostic. A genius\, Imam al-Ghazali was fully proficient in Greek and Roman philosophy\, and he debunked its central tenets\, proving that Revelation was always going to be superior to human reason. Human thinking could never evolve\, he wrote\, in an existential vacuum. \nAll this prompted him to write his magnum opus\, the Ihya ‘Ulumad-Din (the Revival of the Religious Sciences). Today\, it is regarded as one of the classic works on the human psyche. In the Ihya the author explains how to turn one’s base instincts and desires into the golden ideal. \nToday’s modern world – devolved of spirituality and fraught with destructive ills such as materialism\, multi-national greed\, and violence – needs people like Imam al-Ghazali. This is because Imam al-Ghazali teaches a way to balance the body and soul\, thus allowing us to reconcile modernity with spirituality in its broadest and most universal sense. SUMMARY:Bay Area Homeschool Open House
DESCRIPTION:Muslim parents are increasingly turning to full-time Islamic schools or homeschooling as a haven for their children from public schools that are antagonistic to their values. As waitlists grow at Islamic schools\, frustrated parents are unsure what to do next. Join us in discussing homeschooling with Education Consultant Shaheen Rasheed of Soulful Studies and meeting with representatives from the East Bay and Silicon Valley Muslim homeschool organizations of the Bay Area.  Learn more about the support and services\, including how to become a homeschooling family\, enrichment programs\, and what’s caused the current growth in demand\, and get your questions answered directly from parents who have been homeschooling for years. \n\n\n\n7 p.m. to 9 p.m. | Friday\, August 11 | MCC Conference Room | Join in person or watch virtually at HTTP://mcceastbay.org/live \n\n\n\nBay Area Homeschooling groups\, East Bay Muslim Homeschoolers\, and the Silicon Valley Muslim Homeschoolers representatives will attend the event. \n\n\n\nIn this information session\, we will also explore: \n\n\n\n\n– dispelling myths associated with homeschooling;\n\n\n\n– explain the what\, why\, and how to homeschool;\n\n\n\n– introduce the vast resources available to homeschooling parents\, and;\n\n\n\n– explain the varied methodologies to homeschooling as a Muslim in today’s society.\n\n\n\n\nAbout the event facilitatorShaheen Rasheed is an educator’s educator. Her passion for holistic education has driven her 20+ year career as a private and public school teacher turned parent homeschooler and education consultant to families (through Kinza Academy) and private schools\, such as Northstar\, Peace Terrace\, Garden of Knowledge\, and Islamic School of Miami. \n\n\n\nAlong with her certifications in Teaching English as a Second Language and Early Childhood Education\, her master’s in Education\, emphasizing Curriculum and Instruction\, furthered her understanding of educational pedagogues and strengthened her resolve to work toward a more holistic approach to education. \n\n\n\nShaheen Rasheed is an Instructional Designer for a technical training academy. She blogs and lectures about homeschooling\, parenting\, and alternative education. She is a founding member of the East Bay Muslim Homeschoolers group and an advisor to the Bay Area’s Silicon Valley Muslim Homeschoolers group. She has been published in various online and print magazines. She taught part-time at a local community college and taught many online classes. \n\n\n\nShe strongly advocates changing the education system to foster a holistic child by reviving the traditional educational model. \n\n\n\nAs an educational consultant\, she runs the website Soulful Studies. \n\n\n\nMCC also hosts an Islamic school information night on Friday\, August 4: https://mcceastbay.org/event/islamic-schools-open-house \n\n\n\nQuestions? events@mcceastbay.org \n\n\n\nWhat is Homeschooling? \n\n\n\nHomeschooling is an educational approach where parents or guardians choose to educate their children at home instead of sending them to a traditional public or private school. It involves providing a comprehensive education to children within the comfort of their own homes. \n\n\n\nIn homeschooling\, parents typically take on the role of primary educators. They develop or choose a curriculum\, create lesson plans\, and teach the material to their children. Parents can also outsource the teaching to qualified tutors and resources to help prepare their children. Homeschooling can be customized to fit every child’s needs\, interests\, and learning styles. \n\n\n\nWhy Homeschool? \n\n\n\nThe reasons for homeschooling vary from family to family. Some common motivations include a desire for religious or moral education\, a more personalized education\, concerns about the school environment or curriculum\, the child’s unique needs\, the family’s financial situation\, or flexibility in scheduling. \n\n\n\nIs Homeschooling legal? \n\n\n\nThe legality of homeschooling depends on the country and sometimes the specific region within a country. Laws and regulations regarding homeschooling can vary significantly. \n\n\n\nIn many countries\, homeschooling is legal and recognized as a legitimate educational option. Some countries have specific homeschooling laws that outline requirements and procedures for parents to follow. These laws may include mandatory notifications to educational authorities\, periodic assessments\, curriculum standards\, or teacher qualifications. \n\n\n\nIt is crucial for parents considering homeschooling to research the laws and regulations in their specific country\, state\, or region to ensure compliance with local requirements. Local homeschooling organizations\, support groups\, or Education consultants\, such as Soulful Studies\, can provide valuable information and guidance regarding the legal aspects of homeschooling in a particular area. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

He gives wisdom to whomever He wills. Whoever is given wisdom has been given much good. But none pays heed except those with insight. (Quran). We are motivated by the words of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him); the most beloved people to Allah are those most beneficial to the people. (Hadith). We seek to achieve this aim through our in-person educational programs and publications. \n\n\n\nAlmighty Allah ﷻ directs us in Sūratul Aḥzāb\, “Verily\, Allah and His Angels send blessings on the Messenger of Allah. You who believe invoke blessings on him and salute him with a worthy salutation.” Our purpose of invoking blessings upon the Beloved ﷺ leads to proximity to Almighty Allah ﷻ by obeying this command while simultaneously fulfilling our rights upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. It is crystal clear how vital the invocation of Ṣalawāt is for the believer\, and it is a Mercy of Almighty Allah ﷻ for its rewards to be multitudinous. Abundant Ṣalawāt upon the Beloved ﷺ leads to loving him and knowing his beautiful qualities. By that virtue\, degrees of purity are realized. From the signs of the people of the Sunnah is sending Ṣalawāt upon him\, for the key to all goodness is Ṣalawāt upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. \n\n\n\n– More Tri-Valley and East Bay Mawlid celebrations: http://mcceastbay.org/mawlid – More about celebrating the Prophet (peace be upon him)’s day of birth: https://seekersguidance.org/answers/general-counsel/innovation-bida-and-celebrating-the-prophets-birthday-mawlid \n\n\n\n– More Ustadh Tariq: HTTP://mcceastbay.org/tariq \n\n\n\n– More Ustadh Mahdy: HTTP://mcceastbay.org/mahdy

She was honored to receive Ijazah (authorization to teach) several branches of the Shari’ah sciences at the hands of many renowned scholars\, including many female scholars. She has received Ijazah to teach Tajwid in the Hafs and Warsh recitations from the late eminent Syrian scholar Shaykh Abu Hassan al-Kurdi. Thereafter\, she continued her Arabic and Qur’anic studies in Damascus\, Syria\, where she obtained an ijāzah in Tajwīd of the Ḥafṣ recitation from the late eminent Syrian scholar Shaykh Ḥasan al-Kurdī. \n\n\n\nIn 2005\, Ustadha Shamira taught Hanafi fiqh for women at the Zaytuna Institute in California and\, since then\, has taught various Islamic sciences in venues across North America. In 2008\, she earned a Master’s Degree in Demographics and Social Analysis from the University of California at Irvine\, focusing on the identity formation of the Muslim-American population. \n\n\n\nIn 2013\, Ustadha Shamira specialized in the detailed rulings of menstruation\, lochia\, and abnormal discharge under the direction of Mufti Abdur Rahman Ibn Yusuf Mangera and assisted in compiling Imam Abu Hanifa’s Al-Fiqh al-Akbar Explained. \n\n\n\nShamira is a wife and mother of five children. She is passionate about empowering women in their childbearing years to gain closeness to their Lord through her spiritual birth consultations and virtual doula services. \n\n\n\nUstadha Shamira is a co-founder of the Rahmah Foundation and currently teaches for Nur al-Iman\, a full-time girls’ shariah program with Ustadha Mona Elzankaly based in the Bay Area. \n\n\n\nUstadha Hosai MojaddidiUstadha Hosai Mojaddidi co-founded MH4M (http://mentalhealth4muslims.com)\, established in 2010. Learn more about her at http://hosaimojaddidi.comUstadha Hosai Mojaddidi was born in Afghanistan and moved to the United States with her family at age two. She credits her Islamic journey to 1996\, when she attended Islamic classes in Hayward\, California. Her teacher and mentor\, Shaykh Hamza Yusuf\, has taught these classes since then. One of her main areas of focus is to help create a strong sisterhood for women in the community by leading halaqas (spiritual study circles) and support groups whilst offering individual spiritual counseling and mentoring. She noted that many of the spiritual problems encountered were reflective of the deep and complicated mental health issues of the community and would be better served by focusing on mental health. Thus\, along with her cousin Dr. Nafisa Sekandari\, they co-founded a website called Mental Health 4 Muslims (www.mentalhealth4muslims.com).Ustadha Hosai is a freelance writer and editor who lectures on various Islamic/spiritual topics.– More Ustadha Hosai: http://mcceastbay.org/hosai \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
