SUMMARY:Palestinian Plate Art Craft | Soul of My Soul Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:For Boys & Girls Ages 13 to 18: After the youth Jumu’ah\, join the Soul of My Soul Exhibit in creating a hand-painted decorative plate in the traditional style of Al Khalil (Hebron)\, Palestine.  \nIn addition to creating a beautiful keepsake for yourself\, you will also learn about the personal experiences of Bay Area locals with the apartheid and occupation in the West Bank. Participants will have the unique opportunity to hear from a Palestinian teenager currently living in the West Bank to foster a better understanding of the situation. \n\nFriday\, Oct. 18 | 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. | MCC Banquet Hall | $35/person | Ages 14-18 | Register at http://mcceastbay.org/art  \nThe event is capped at 20. Pizza is provided. \nCosponsored by Soul of My Soul Exhibit and MCC East Bay. \nQuestions? events@mcceastbay.org \nMCC has a standing policy that financial need should never hold a person back from attaining spiritual or educational knowledge within the four walls of the Muslim Community Center. For a financial waiver for this event\, please email scholarship@mcceastbay.org.  \nEvent Schedule\n \n\n4:00 – 4:45 pm – Late lunch and introductions (teenage attendees will have a chance to discuss what they’ve witnessed this past year and its impact on them)\n4:45 – 5:15 pm – Start the craft by drawing out the plate art outline\n5:15 – 5:25 pm – Break for Asr\n5:25 – 6:15 pm – While attendees paint their plates\, they will watch a short documentary about the apartheid in the West Bank and gain some insight into what it means to be a teenager living in occupied Palestine.\n6:15 – 7:00 pm – Level Up for Palestine: How to take your advocacy to the next level (with a break for maghrib)\n\nEvent attendees will not leave this event feeling depressed about the situation in Gaza but instead feel empowered to work for their sisters and brothers in Palestine.  \nWe will facilitate discussions with our youth in a safe space\, allowing them to voice their concerns and discover their strengths regarding what they can offer to the movement. \nAll profits will go directly to supporting Palestinians on the ground in Palestine (either Gaza or the West Bank). \nSoul of My Soul Exhibit promotes conversations about Palestine through arts and culture.
