He lives with his family in the Tri-Valley.\n\n\n\nAbout Dr. Greg Shay\n\nGreg Shay is a retired Pediatric Pulmonologist who has served on over 30 medical missions throughout the world\, including Syria\, Bangladesh\, and three separate trips to Gaza. While in Gaza\, he helped establish cystic fibrosis care and trained pediatric pulmonologists. He lives in the East Bay.

Join us for a special day trip to one of the most iconic hikes in the country. \nOur MCC Brothers Hiking Group is heading to Yosemite National Park to tackle the Mist Trail – two massive waterfalls\, 2\,158 ft of elevation gain\, and some of the most stunning scenery in California. This hike is rated hard and best suited for experienced hikers.\n\nSaturday\, April 25\, 2026 | 5:30 a.m. (after Fajr) | Start at MCC East Bay | Brothers 18+ only \nRSVP at mcceastbay.org/brothers-hike \n\nWhen: April 25\, 2026\nTime: 5:30 a.m. – Please arrive on time. We will begin carpooling promptly after Fajr.\nCarpool: Carpooling from MCC. Please RSVP on Partiful to be included in carpool coordination.\nMeeting Point: MCC East Bay\nTrail: Vernal and Nevada Falls via the Mist Trail\nDistance: 6.6 miles\nDifficulty: Hard\nMisc: No stops on the way – bring breakfast and coffee for the drive. Pack lunch and snacks for the trail. Two massive waterfalls\, 2\,158 ft of elevation gain\, ~5 hours. AllTrails rates it hard.\nWhat to bring:\n\nBreakfast & coffee for the drive\nLunch and snacks for the trail\nShoes with a solid grip — the rocks get slippery near the falls\nLayers — it gets wet up there\n\n\nParking at Yosemite can be limited. We’ll park wherever available in the valley and take the free shuttle to the trailhead. Plan to meet at the trailhead by a set time — more details to come.\nBrother Mohammad Kaddoura & Brother Din lead this special hike that will build fraternity amongst our congregation.\n\nAbout this trail: \nHike to two breathtaking waterfalls along some of Yosemite Valley’s most popular hiking trails. If you only have time for one hike while in Yosemite\, look no further – the Mist Trail is the hike for you. It is no wonder that this trail is one of the most traveled in Yosemite National Park. You will hike so close to these two massive waterfalls that you may get wet from the trail. The best time to hike this trail is in Spring or early Summer\, while the snow runoff is high and the falls are full of water. \nThe Mist Trail starts at Happy Isles Trailhead (YARTS Happy Isles shuttle stop #16\, and is within walking distance of Curry Village and the parking lot). The park recommends starting early to avoid the larger crowds. After a brief stroll along the river\, you climb a pretty steep initial ascent over stone steps until you reach the footbridge\, which offers the first glimpse of Vernal Falls in the distance. You will also find a water fountain and restrooms. You will then continue up to Vernal Falls\, past Emerald Pool\, and alongside Nevada Falls until you reach the high point of this hike. \nYou can choose to take the alternate route down along the John Muir Trail to see great views of Nevada Falls and Liberty Cap in the distance before meeting back up with the Mist Trail near the footbridge. This route back is slightly longer\, but offers a change of scenery and is easier on the knees. Before hopping back on the YARTS shuttle\, treat yourself to some ice cream or a refreshing drink at the small stand\, or head over to Curry Village for a wider selection. \nIn the 19th century\, Yosemite National Park was served by Buffalo Soldiers\, former Black regiments of the US Army. These men became the first Black national park rangers and backcountry rangers\, tasked with fighting fires\, preventing poaching\, and helping create the trails that millions of people explore each year. \n  \nMohammed Kadoura leads these monthly hikes for the brothers. Please remember that we cannot hold the group\, so we request that you arrive on time. \nAbout Mohammed Kaddoura\nMohammed lives with his family in the Tri-Valley area and works in data analytics. He has been an active member of the MCC community for nearly three years\, organizing a weekly book club and a monthly men’s hiking group. He believes in the power of shared stories and genuine conversation\, and is drawn to spaces where people come together around ideas that matter. At an early age\, he attended halaqas on Quranic recitation\, Tajweed\, Hadith\, and Aqida under prominent Syrian scholars\, including Dr. Mohammed Rateb al-Nabulsi and Shaykh Bassam Ajek of the Abu Nour Islamic Institute. After completing his undergraduate studies in engineering\, Mohammad moved to the United States to pursue a graduate degree. He has continued his Islamic studies abroad—focusing on the blessed Seerah\, Hadith collections\, and Hadith terminology—and has earned certificates under scholars such as Sheik Ghazwan Shurbaji and Sayydi Sheik Samer Alnass\, and is currently studying Hanafi Fiqh with Ustadh Tarif Arabi.

DESCRIPTION:As MCC continues to grapple with heavy parking congestion at its weekly Jumu’ah services\, we’re excited to offer a special incentive for community members who choose to ride their bikes to the mosque. \nTo help reduce traffic and make things easier for everyone\, we’re encouraging biking as a great alternative. \nAs a thank-you to any worshiper attending the 1:30 p.m.\, 2:30 p.m.\, or 3:40 p.m. service\, the first 20 attendees each Friday who bike to the mosque will receive a complimentary Iniburger meal card good for a complimentary B’igi Burger combo. \nGift cards can be picked up from the Operations Office. Just let our staff member know that you rode your bicycle. Remember to wear your helmet! From 8:30–11:30 a.m.\, MCC community members will come together to help prepare meals and assemble food bags for families in need across East Bay. \nThis monthly initiative is a chance to give back\, strengthen community bonds\, and make a tangible impact on those facing food insecurity. Whether you’re coming with friends\, family\, or on your own\, your time and effort will go a long way in supporting underprivileged communities. \nAll are welcome—come ready to serve\, connect\, and make a difference. \nSaturday\, May 9th | 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. | Alameda County Community Food Bank (7900 Edgewater Dr. Oakland\, CA 94621) | Register at mcceastbay.org/food-bank1 | In-person only \n  \nBEFORE YOU ARRIVE: \n\nOrganizing carpools is highly recommended.\nShoes that cover your entire foot are required\, preferably sneakers or boots (no crocs!). \nAppropriate clothing should be worn for your volunteer shift – limited jewelry\, no perfume/cologne\, and comfortable clothing that you don’t mind getting a little dirty.\nDressing in layers is recommended since our warehouse is not climate-controlled. This also means that the air quality outside will affect the air quality in the warehouse – please be aware of this if you have respiratory sensitivities. \nVolunteers are encouraged to bring a pair of sturdy\, reusable work gloves.\nYouth (ages 10-17) must have the Waiver Form signed by a parent/legal guardian – if it wasn’t completed during the sign-up process\, it can be printed here and brought to the shift. One adult volunteer must be present for every five youths.\n\nDAY-OF INSTRUCTIONS: \n\nDO NOT volunteer if you’re experiencing any signs of illness.\nPlan to arrive around 10 minutes before the shift begins for check-in.\nPack a lunch or snacks! You will need a profile on HalfOurDeen to participate\, since this singles event features unique online/offline interactions. If you’re not already a member of HalfOurDeen\, that’s no problem. HalfOurDeen is providing a 90-day free trial membership for all MCC event attendees. Please note that your trial membership ends after 90 days\, so you won’t be charged until the 31st. You can cancel right after the event if you choose. One advantage is that after meeting people at the event\, you can learn more about them from their online profiles before connecting. An HOD-free membership will allow you to view anyone’s profile who is also registered with the site. Unlike other events\, we will thoroughly vet all applicants through a detailed application process. This process will ensure that the attendees are serious about marriage and that there are enough attendees of the opposite gender\, potentially compatible with *you* and your preferences. We will try our best to have as close to a 50:50 ratio of females to males as possible. \n\n\n\nWe will offer a wide variety of structured activities to help you discover your potential in a low-key\, pressure-free\, and fun way. How will the event be kept private?\n\n\n\nThe only people who know that you will be at the event…are those at the event (and\, of course\, the people you tell). The MCC Matrimony Committee or HOD Offline will not inform anyone of your attendance. We are also keeping the event location private. Once you have fully registered and paid\, the venue address will be sent to you only. So please do not share the event location with anyone! \n\n\n\nIs there a dress code?\n\n\n\nOur only dress code is that your clothing must comply with Islamic principles (clothing cannot be revealing\, tight\, or see-through). Other than that\, feel free to express your personality! Remember that you want to protect yourself best while remaining modest and genuine. \n\n\n\nI do not wear a headscarf in public. Do I have to wear one to the event?\n\n\n\nAlthough we highly encourage everyone to dress as closely as possible in accordance with Islamic principles\, we will not require you to wear a headscarf\, as the event is not in a masjid prayer space. He was born in Herat\, Afghanistan\, and immigrated with his family to America during the Russian invasion of Afghanistan in 1985. After graduating from American High School and Chabot College\, he attended San Francisco State University\, where he majored in history. He grew up in a household with a deep love and reverence for poetry. At the age of five\, he began to memorize poems by Rumi and other great poets. His love of poetry continued to grow and eventually developed into a passion and calling that would allow him to teach regular classes on Rumi throughout California\, the U.S.\, the U.K.\, Canada\, Australia\, Malaysia\, Germany\, and even as far as Konya\, Turkey\, where Mawlana Rumi is laid to rest. The nuances of the Farsi language\, in which he is fluent\, allow him to bring Rumi’s poetry to life and help listeners recognize Rumi’s essential message of peace\, love\, coexistence\, and connection with the Divine. He is the author and performer of the “Layla & Majnun” play produced by Performing Lines in Perth\, Australia. Ustadh Feraidoon Mojadedi spends his free time reading\, studying\, and lecturing on a wide range of topics\, including Rumi\, Farsi poetry\, spirituality\, and self-development. He currently lives with his wife and two children in Dublin\, California. \n               Interfaith Interconnect monthly “Chats.” \n   Tri-Valley Interfaith Interconnect meets on the second Wednesday of every month at a different Worship Community location in Livermore and Pleasanton. \nThe meetings begin and end promptly at 7 p.m. and 8:15 p.m.\, respectively\, so that you can make other commitments that evening if needed. The doors open at 4:30 pm and remain open until 8:30 pm for a social period and to continue discussions if desired (as often happens). \nTypically\, two speakers from different faiths will speak for 10-15 minutes each about a particular subject\, followed by Q&A for each speaker.  We then break into groups of three to discuss a suggested question on spiritual or cultural values.  The Chat ends promptly at 8:15 pm so people can leave\, but small groups often extend their discussions or join others for discussion or socializing. \nThe subject of the Chat discussions will typically continue for 1-4 meetings as the various faith groups within Interfaith Interconnect address the topic.  Past topics have been: \n\nWhat does your faith teach about the acceptance of other religions? Has this changed over time?\nChoose a particular holy day or celebration that your faith observes. What is its significance? How do you celebrate it?\nWhat myths or misconceptions would you like to dispel about your religion or religious practice?\nHow is meditation practiced in your faith?\nWhat is your faith’s creation story? Nationwide\, someone needs a unit of blood every 2 to 3 seconds\, and most of us will need blood at some point in our lives. A Power Red donation targets only O-\, O+\, A-\, and B—blood types. It takes 20-30 minutes because donors give two units of concentrated Red Blood Cells\, and platelets and plasma are returned. Blood diversity is essential. Now more than ever\, the American Red Cross needs the help of black blood donors. \n\n\n\nBlood donors report feeling a strong sense of satisfaction after donating blood. Why? Because helping others in need feels good. \n\n\n\nIf you have visited India\, Pakistan\, or another high-risk malaria country and returned within the last 12 months\, you are not eligible to donate blood. See the latest travel-related restrictions to blood donation eligibility. \n\n\n\nEvery person who donates blood at MCC will receive a voucher for a free meal at IniBurger—Gourmet Burgers in Pleasanton.
