Her desire to continue studying the Deen resulted in multiple trips back to Damascus\, interspersed between her high school\, college\, and medical studies. She was honored to receive Ijazah (authorization to teach) several branches of the Shari’ah sciences at the hands of many renowned scholars\, including many female scholars. She has received Ijazah to teach Tajwid in the Hafs and Warsh recitations from the late eminent Syrian scholar Shaykh Abu Hassan al-Kurdi. In addition to completing several advanced texts of the Shafi’i madhhab\, she is licensed to teach texts of Maliki fiqh\, Adab\, and Ihsan. Currently\, Ustadha Rania teaches online and local classes for The Rahmah Foundation\, Rabata. She is on the faculty of Zaytuna College\, where she teaches courses in Shafi’i fiqh and women’s issues in fiqh and has helped develop and co-direct the Tajweed and Hifz program. \n\n\n\nUstadha Rania is also a medical doctor with a specialty in Psychiatry. She completed her Psychiatric residency and fellowship training at Stanford University\, where she is currently on the faculty as a Clinical Instructor in the Stanford Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences department. Her medical interests include addressing mental health care concerns in the Muslim community- particularly that of Muslim women and girls. She has been awarded grants from the NIMH (National Institute of Mental Health) to research this topic and has presented her findings at several medical conferences. Other ongoing endeavors include compiling manuscripts addressing female-related mental health and medical issues from a fiqh-oriented perspective. She is the Director of the Rahmah Foundation\, a non-profit organization that teaches traditional Islamic knowledge to Muslim women and girls. In this capacity\, she also heads the Murbbiyah Mentoring Program\, which trains young women to teach and mentor Muslim girls and teens. Ustadha Rania is both a wife and a mother; she has been counseling and teaching women classes on Tajwid\, Shafi’i Fiqh\, Ihsan\, marriage\, and raising children since 1999. \n\n\n\nLearn more about Dr. Rania and her work at http://med.stanford.edu/psychiatry/research/MuslimMHLab.html \n\n\n\nEvery Friday evening\, the MCC bustles with activity. This gradual route is a less-strenuous option for hiking to the top of the popular East Bay peak. \nIt starts from the parking lot at Ohlone College along Mission Boulevard in Fremont\, California. Just one trail — the aptly named Peak Trail — curves and climbs its way to the 2\,517-foot summit of Mission Peak. (From the parking lot\, look for a sign pointing to Ohlone Trail). \nAbundant parking at Ohlone College on the weekend makes this trailhead a welcome alternative to the Stanford Avenue entrance which fills quickly. There’s also a bit more shade on this route compared to other trails to the summit.  \nImpressive views of the Diablo Range and San Francisco Bay open up on the way up. Don’t be surprised if you see deer and coyotes the ground and raptors and vultures soaring overhead. \nBest time to go: Springtime when the hills are green and the wildflowers are blooming. Winter’s the next-best time\, especially if the peak gets a dusting of snow. Fall is OK; summer’s too hot during the day\, but many hikers hit the summit at sunset and hike down after dark (best done under a full moon). \nNO bikes are allowed on this trail.

SUMMARY:"Born Far From Home: A Midwife’s Search for Meaning" | Shannon Staloch
DESCRIPTION:For Sisters: Join us for a special gathering with Shannon Staloch\, a licensed midwife and longtime community advocate\, as she shares heartfelt reflections on support\, belonging\, and the unique experiences of New Muslims. Shannon will speak about the importance of midwifery and the role it has played in her own spiritual journey as a convert of over 20 years. \nShe will also read from her beautifully written new memoir\, Born Far From Home: A Midwife’s Search for Meaning\, a moving exploration of faith\, service\, and identity. \nThis event is perfect for all women\, and especially meaningful for converts seeking connection\, inspiration\, and shared experience. \nSaturday\, Dec. 20 | 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. | MCC Conference Room | Sisters Only | Join us in-person or virtually at mcceastbay.org/live | Register at mcceastbay.org/meaning \nCo-sponsored by The Rahmah Foundation \nQuestions? events@mcceastbay.org \nAbout the Speaker\nShannon Staloch became a licensed midwife in 2008. Since then\, she has attended over 800 births and established the popular home birth practice\, Midwives Bay Area. Born Far From Home is her first book. Shannon resides in Berkeley\, California\, and still takes daily walks or runs in its beautiful hills.\n \nAbout The Book\, Born Far From Home\nA new Muslim\, Shannon Staloch\, moves to California to live near a community studying traditional Islam and finds herself learning another venerable tradition\, midwifery. In this intricately woven memoir\, Shannon braids the intimate moments from the birth stories of a diverse cast of women with the reflections of great thinkers from the Islamic and Western traditions—from the spiritual master Imam al-Ghazali to the British obstetrician Grantly Dick Read\, from Plato to Malcolm X—as she traces her journey of finding belonging and an enduring path to truth in her new faith. Birth by birth\, Shannon approaches a deeper understanding of her craft and herself\, aiming for a place that transcends identity\, buoyed by the belief that dedication to a craft can shape not just the hands of a craftswoman but also her soul. \n“Shannon Staloch effortlessly weaves ancient childbirth lore with the stories of births she attends\, and relates them to her deepening faith in an equally ancient religion…beautiful\, elegiac\, transformative.” Peggy Vincent\, bestselling author of Baby Catcher: Chronicles of a Modern Midwife

The heart is the ruler of this Kingdom\, and the rest of the body is its subjects. If the heart rules with justice and excellence\, the body will perform good actions\, and the Kingdom will flourish. If the heart neglects its duties\, the body will disobey Allah\, and the entire Kingdom will suffer the consequences. Allah ﷻ made this Kingdom so crucial that through it the eternal and everlasting dominion of the next life is either gained or lost.” The Kingdom of the Heart by Habib ‘Umar Bin Hafiz gives the reader a deeper understanding of the importance of cultivating the spiritual kingdom of the heart. Readers will gain a deeper appreciation of how outward actions have spiritual consequences. Some of the topics covered are: • The Tongue & Its Effects • Looking at Creation with Love & Mercy • The Impact of Shaking Hands • Attending to the Ending of Our Lives • The Impact of Intention This book uniquely shows the direct correlation between outward actions and the heart\, giving us insights into how various actions impact the state of our hearts. Ultimately\, it gives us a way to internalize the wisdom and purpose of acts of devotion\, resulting in the purification of the heart and nearness to Allah ﷻ. \nAbout the Author\nHabib Umar bin Hafiz (Arabic: حبيب عمر بن حفيظ\, romanized: Ḥabīb ʿUmar bin Ḥafīẓ; Arabic pronunciation: [ħabiːb ʕumar bin ħafiːðˤ]; born 27 May 1963) is a Yemeni Sunni and Sufi Islamic scholar\, teacher\, and founder and dean of Dar al-Mustafa Islamic seminary.[3] He is also a Supreme Advisory Council member for the Tabah Foundation in Abu Dhabi. \nUstadh Tariq Samady\nUstadh Tariq Samady is a native of the Bay Area with roots in the ancient city of Kabul. He studied Computer Science at California State University—East Bay and has over ten years of experience as a Developer and Analytics QA Engineer. \nAbout Circles of Light\nCircles of Light is a fledgling educational initiative focused on sharing sacred learnings and wisdom for the benefit of the community\, meant to assist in maximizing Dunya (this life) for our Deen (Faith). He gives wisdom to whomever He wills. Whoever is given wisdom has been given much good. But none pays heed except those with insight. (Quran). We are motivated by the words of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him); the most beloved people to Allah are those most beneficial to the people. (Hadith). We seek to achieve this aim through our in-person educational programs and publications. \nAlmighty Allah ﷻ directs us in Sūratul Aḥzāb\, “Verily\, Allah and His Angels send blessings on the Messenger of Allah. You who believe invoke blessings on him and salute him with a worthy salutation.” Our purpose of invoking blessings upon the Beloved ﷺ leads to proximity to Almighty Allah ﷻ by obeying this command while simultaneously fulfilling our rights upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. It is crystal clear how vital the invocation of Ṣalawāt is for the believer\, and it is a Mercy of Almighty Allah ﷻ for its rewards to be multitudinous. Abundant Ṣalawāt upon the Beloved ﷺ leads to loving him and knowing his beautiful qualities. By that virtue\, degrees of purity are realized. SUMMARY:Community Dua For Protection From Earthquakes: Humility in the Face of Tribulation | Sidi Quran Hodge
DESCRIPTION:\n“Our Lord relieve us of the torment. Lo! we are believers!” (The Smoke 44:12) \nDuring our monthly Mawlid gathering at MCC on Saturday evening\, an earthquake struck\, one of a swarm of recent quakes that have hit in nearby San Ramon. \nNearly 150 tremors have struck in the Bay Area in the past month. \nThe Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) encouraged us to turn to Allah and to ask for His help during such disasters. Earthquakes are among the natural events that shake us the most amid life’s uncertainties. \nTomorrow afternoon\, we come together asking for forgiveness & refuge in Allah. Join us to soothe the anxiety in our hearts and to beseech Allah through special supplications. \nAfter the congregational Zuhr prayer (12:30 p.m.) tomorrow\, Sunday\, Dec. 21\, Ustadh Quran Hodge will lead us in worship and reflections. \nAfter we welcome a young man entering the fold of Islam\, we will pray together two rakats of the Prayer of Need (Salat al-Haja). We will then reflect on the weight of the moment we are in. \nJoin us as we approach Allah with our prayers\, trusting in Him in the face of any calamity that may befall us in this world. Finding community in faith at this time will give us confidence and peace. \n\n \nDua for Protection from Earthquakes \nاَللّٰهُمَّ إِنِّيْ أَعُوْذُ بِعَظَمَتِكَ أَنْ أُغْتَالَ مِنْ \nO Allah\, I seek refuge in Your greatness from being swallowed up from beneath me. \nاَللّٰهُمَّ إِنِّيْ أَعُوْذُ بِكَ مِنَ التَّرَدِّيْ وَالْهَدْمِ \nO Allah\, I seek refuge with You from being thrown from a high place or crushed beneath a falling wall \n[Sunan an-Nasa’i: 5529\, Sunan an-Nasa’i: 5531] \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe Are Now in Rajab!\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLevel up now in the Month of Forgiveness as we near Ramadan!\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nImam Shafi’i (rahimahullah) has stated: \n“I have heard that Almighty Allah accepts du’as on five nights: \n\nThe night of Jumu’ah\,\nThe night of Eid al-Fitr\nThe night of Eid al-Adha\nThe first night of Rajab\,\nThe middle (15th) night of Shaban”\n\n(al-Umm\, vol. 2\, pg. 485)

SUMMARY:The Key is Knowledge: Knowing Allah Through Scholarship | Ustadha Hosai Mojaddidi & Shaykh Noman Hussain
DESCRIPTION:In a time of noise and uncertainty\, clarity comes from returning to sacred knowledge. 2026 is your year to do so! Join Ustadha Hosai Mojaddidi and Shaykh Noman Hussain to strengthen Iman\, deepen understanding\, and reconnect with timeless guidance that anchors the heart and mind. \n 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. | Friday\, January 9\, 2026 | MCC Prayer Hall | Join in person or watch virtually at mcceastbay.org/live  \nDue to a family need\, Mufti Abdul Rahman Waheed could not make it as originally planned. \nSponsored by Miftaah Institute & MCC East Bay.\n\nQuestions? events@mcceastbay.org  \nUstadha Hosai is the co-founder of MH4M (http://mentalhealth4muslims.com)\, established in 2010. For nearly 20 years\, she has been actively involved in the Bay Area and southern California Muslim community\, working and volunteering for many notable organizations. Learn more about her at http://hosaimojaddidi.com \n– More Ustadha Hosai: http://mcceastbay.org/hosai \nUstadha Hosai Mojaddidi was born in Afghanistan and moved to the United States with her family at age two. She credits her Islamic journey to the year 1996 when she began attending Islamic classes in Hayward\, California. These classes were taught by her teacher and mentor since then; Shaykh Hamza Yusuf. \nOne of her main areas of focus is to help create a strong sisterhood for the women in the community by leading halaqas (spiritual study circles) and support groups whilst offering individual spiritual counseling and mentoring. She noted that many of the spiritual problems encountered were actually reflective of the deep and complicated mental health issues of the community and would be better served by focusing on mental health. Thus\, along with her cousin Dr. Nafisa Sekandari\, they co-founded a website called Mental Health 4 Muslims (www.mentalhealth4muslims.com). \nUstadha Hosai is also a freelance writer and editor and lectures on various Islamic/spiritual topics. \nQari Noman Hussain serves as the Associate Director and a faculty member at the Qalam Seminary. He was born and raised in Chicago\, IL. Upon completing the memorization of the Quran\, Qari Noman traveled to South Africa to further his education in the Islamic sciences at Darul Uloom Zakariyya. Graduating at the top of his class in 2009\, he earned authorizations (ijazāt) in several Islamic sciences\, specializing in Quranic sciences such as tajwīd and the ʿasharah qirāʾāt (ten modes of recitation). \nFor the past 15 years\, Qari Noman has dedicated himself to serving the Chicago and Milwaukee communities. In addition to his roles as an Imam and Resident Scholar\, he has served as a hifẓ teacher\, high school instructor\, chaplain\, and leader of interfaith groups and civic coalitions. Qari Noman is also the founder of Oasis Chicago\, a space committed to creating social-spiritual experiences for young professionals and families.
