Her passion for holistic education has driven her 20+ year career as a private and public school teacher turned parent homeschooler and education consultant to families (through Kinza Academy) and private schools\, such as Northstar\, Peace Terrace\, Garden of Knowledge\, and Islamic School of Miami. \n\n\n\nAlong with her certifications in Teaching English as a Second Language and Early Childhood Education\, her master’s in Education\, emphasizing Curriculum and Instruction\, furthered her understanding of educational pedagogues and strengthened her resolve to work toward a more holistic approach to education. \n\n\n\nShaheen Rasheed is an Instructional Designer for a technical training academy. She taught part-time at a local community college and taught many online classes. \n\n\n\nShe strongly advocates changing the education system to foster a holistic child by reviving the traditional educational model. \n\n\n\nAs an educational consultant\, she runs the website Soulful Studies. \n\n\n\nMCC also hosts an Islamic school information night on Friday\, August 4: https://mcceastbay.org/event/islamic-schools-open-house \n\n\n\nQuestions? events@mcceastbay.org \n\n\n\nWhat is Homeschooling? \n\n\n\nHomeschooling is an educational approach where parents or guardians choose to educate their children at home instead of sending them to a traditional public or private school. It involves providing a comprehensive education to children within the comfort of their own homes. \n\n\n\nIn homeschooling\, parents typically take on the role of primary educators. They develop or choose a curriculum\, create lesson plans\, and teach the material to their children. Parents can also outsource the teaching to qualified tutors and resources to help prepare their children. Homeschooling can be customized to fit every child’s needs\, interests\, and learning styles. \n\n\n\nWhy Homeschool? \n\n\n\nThe reasons for homeschooling vary from family to family. Some common motivations include a desire for religious or moral education\, a more personalized education\, concerns about the school environment or curriculum\, the child’s unique needs\, the family’s financial situation\, or flexibility in scheduling. \n\n\n\nIs Homeschooling legal? \n\n\n\nThe legality of homeschooling depends on the country and sometimes the specific region within a country. Laws and regulations regarding homeschooling can vary significantly. \n\n\n\nIn many countries\, homeschooling is legal and recognized as a legitimate educational option. Some countries have specific homeschooling laws that outline requirements and procedures for parents to follow. These laws may include mandatory notifications to educational authorities\, periodic assessments\, curriculum standards\, or teacher qualifications. \n\n\n\nIt is crucial for parents considering homeschooling to research the laws and regulations in their specific country\, state\, or region to ensure compliance with local requirements. Local homeschooling organizations\, support groups\, or Education consultants\, such as Soulful Studies\, can provide valuable information and guidance regarding the legal aspects of homeschooling in a particular area. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

He is the Co-Founder of the Tayba Foundation\, one of the few Muslim organizations in the US serving incarcerated Muslims\, providing them much-needed Islamic education and essential life skills training and assistance upon re-entry.Learn more about Sheikh Rami at https://www.taybafoundation.org/our-team“The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam) said\, “People are ores like the ores of gold and silver. The best of them in jahiliyya are the best of them in Islam if they gain fiqh (understanding).” We should not see in ourselves and others what is immediately apparent but rather look for the potential that can be attained. This potential is unlocked through knowledge of Islam.”Rami Nsour was born in Amman\, Jordan\, and moved to the United States at the age of 9. During his college years\, he attended classes taught by shuyukh in the San Francisco Bay Area\, notably Shaykh Khatri bin Bayba\, Shaykh Abdullah bin Ahmedna\, and Shaykh Hamza Yusuf. With their encouragement\, Rami embarked on a journey to Mauritania in 1998. In Mauritania\, he studied with some of the greatest scholars of our times\, such as his foremost\, Shaykh Murabit al Hajj bin Fahfu. He was also blessed to study with Murabit Muhammad al-Amin bin al-Shaykh\, Murabit Ahmed Fal bin Ahmedna\, Shaykh Abdullah bin Ahmedna\, Shaykh Tahir ibn Murabit al Hajj and Shaykh Sa’d Bu among others. Rami completed studies in the subjects of Qu’ran\, ‘Aqeedah (Belief)\, Fiqh (Law)\, Nahu (grammar)\, Ihsan (spiritual purification)\, and adab (manners). He has memorized the final text of Maliki fiqh\, Mukhtasar Khalil\, and has been granted permission by his shuyukh to teach. In addition to his extensive study of fiqh\, he was afforded the unique opportunity to attend one-on-one sessions with his teachers\, where he would engage them in countless hours of discussion on the application of fiqh in general and specifically for those living in the West.Rami has translated traditional Islamic texts from Arabic\, including various works on Maliki fiqh and several works of the great Mauritanian scholar Shaykh Muhammad Mawlud\, including Birr al-Walidayan (The Rights of Parents)\, Ishraq al-Qarar (The Spiritual Aspects of Prayer)\, and the Adab of Sadaqa. He has spent a great deal of his time teaching and aiding Muslims in prison and has seen how knowledge unlocks human potential. His students in the prisons have\, in turn\, taught countless people and invited many people to Islam. He was instrumental in co-founding Dar as-Salaam\, a project dedicated to building and supporting a school in Mauritania. Shaykh Rami serves as Senior Instructor at SeekersHub Global. Rami is the co-founder of the Tayba Foundation\, which has a correspondence program for Muslim inmates (http://www.taybafoundation.org/). Rami resides in the San Francisco Bay Area\, is married\, and has two children. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nABOUT THIS EDUCATIONAL SEMINAR BOOKLETWe are all teachers in some respect or another. What would happen to our teaching if we incorporated some elements from the example of Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم ? \n\n\n\nWe can all become better teachers\, no matter what stage of life we are in or in what capacity we are teaching. We can continually enhance our ability to be sincere and effective teachers by learning from his methods. \n\n\n\nEven if we don’t see teaching as an aspect of our lives\, we can also grow closer to the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم by knowing him better.ABOUT TAYBAWE SERVE THE FORGOTTEN BELIEVERSIn prisons across America\, nearly 1 in 10 prisoners turn to Islam to start a new life and rekindle their relationship with God. But access to learning the deen is scarce behind bars\, and anti-Muslim prejudice is common. \n\n\n\nTayba Foundation is one of the few American organizations serving Muslims in prison nationwide. We offer a comprehensive Islamic curriculum to both help new converts cover the essentials of their faith and dedicated students to reach a level where they can become teachers in local communities. \n\n\n\nTayba also offers programs to help incarcerated Muslims overcome challenges from their past\, such as trauma\, addiction\, mental health disorders\, etc. \n\n\n\nTo learn more about our work and support your incarcerated brothers and sisters\, head to:www.taybafoundation.org 510.952.9683 \n\n\n\ninfo@taybafoundation.org
