SUMMARY:Cat Adoption at Jumu'ah Prayers
DESCRIPTION:Valley Humane Society of Pleasanton will be on site with immediately adoptable furry felines who are ready to be part of your forever family.  \n\n\n\n2 p.m. to 5 p.m. | Friday\, Oct. 13 | MCC Banquet Hall | Free; no RSVP required to attend | See adoption fee below \n\n\n\n“Verily\, there is a Heavenly reward for every act of kindness done to a living animal.” Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) \n\n\n\nEach adopter must be at least 21 years of age. The adoption fee for a kitten is $125 or $200 for a pair and $100 for a cat. It includes: \n\n\n\n\n -medical summary report\n\n\n\n– spay or neuter surgery;\n\n\n\n– microchip and transfer of ownership\n\n\n\n– age-appropriate vaccinations;\n\n\n\n– up to date on flea control;\n\n\n\n– parasite control treatments;\n\n\n\n– free sample bag of food and\n\n\n\n– free vet check certificate\n\n\n\n– coupons for local pet stores\n\n\n\n\nQuestions? events@mcceastbay.org \n\n\n\nProphet Mohammad (peace be upon him) was fond of cats\, particularly his cat Muezza. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was so attached to him he’d let the cat sit on his lap while he gave his sermons. He’d even drink water that Muezza had previously been lapping up. \n\n\n\nThere are several well-known tales about Muezza. One says that the cat saved Prophet Muhammad from the deadly bite of a venomous snake. Another relates a time when Muezza was asleep on Prophet Muhammad’s robe when the call to prayers sounded. Although most people would have shooed away the cat\, Prophet Muhammad instead cut off the sleeve of his robe so Muezza could rest in peace. \n\n\n\nIslam instructs Muslims to revere cats. In fact\, mistreating a cat is considered a significant transgression.

SUMMARY:Congregational Prayer During Solar Eclipse
DESCRIPTION:Help us revive a Sunnah by joining us at 9:18 a.m. for worship and the congregational solar eclipse prayer (Salat al-Kusoof) led by Qari Amar Bellaha. The Prophet (PBUH) would engage in worship in the masjid during this unique event. \n\n\n\nAccording to NASA\, though the solar eclipse will begin at about 8:05 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.\, we will perform the congregational four cycles of Salat al-Kusoof; the maximum eclipse is anticipated at 9:18 a.m. We welcome you and your family to come early and stay afterward to perform additional worship. \n\n\n\nSaturday\, Oct. 14 | 9:18 a.m. to 9:22 a.m. | Prayer Hall | Join in-person \n\n\n\nQuestions? events@mcceastbay.org \n\n\n\nFor how to perform this prayer\, see here. \n\n\n\nThe Saturday\, Oct. 14\, 2023\, annular solar eclipse will cross North\, Central\, and South America. It will be visible in parts of the United States\, Mexico\, and many countries in South and Central America. \n\n\n\nIn Pleasanton\, the eclipse will start at 8:05 a.m.\, with the maximum eclipse anticipated at 9:18 a.m. to 9:22 a.m. It will be over by 10:45 a.m. According to NASA\, we will witness a partial solar eclipse with the moon obscuring about 80 percent of the sun at the maximum eclipse point in the Tri-Valley. \n\n\n\nWhen the sun was eclipsed at the time of the Messenger of Allah\, he rushed nervously to the mosque\, dragging his cloak behind him and leading the people in prayer. \n\n\n\nHe told them that the eclipse was one of the signs of Allah\, with which Allah makes His slaves afraid\, and that it may be the cause of punishment coming upon the people. \n\n\n\nHe commanded them to do that which could prevent the punishment\, so he commanded them to pray when an eclipse happens and to make du’aa’\, seek His forgiveness\, give charity\, free slaves\, and do other righteous deeds so that the punishment would go away and not befall the people. \n\n\n\n“The sun and moon are two signs of Allah(ﷻ)\, and they do not become eclipsed for the death or birth of anyone. If you see that\, then pray until it (the eclipse) is over.” – Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) \n\n\n\nAccording to another hadeeth: “Call on Allah and pray until [the eclipse] is over.” \n\n\n\nSalat Al-Kusuf is a recommended Sunnah (Sunnah Muakkada). It is better to perform in congregation but can also be done individually. In Salatul Kusuf\, there is no athan or iqama. It is two rakats. \n\n\n\nIn addition\, it can be one long prayer until the eclipse is finished\, or it can be done in multiple prayers throughout the eclipse. \n\n\n\nSteps of Salatul Kusuf – The Solar Eclipse Prayer: \n\n\n\n\n1. He was born in Herat\, Afghanistan and immigrated with his family to America during the Russian invasion of Afghanistan in 1985. After graduating from American High School and Chabot College he attended San Francisco State University where he majored in history. \n\n\n\nHe grew up in a household with a deep love and reverence for poetry. At the age of five he began to memorize poems by Rumi and other great poets. His love of poetry continued to grow and eventually developed into a passion and calling that would allow him to teach regular classes on Rumi throughout California\, the U.S.\, U.K.\, Canada\, Australia\, Malaysia\, Germany and even as far as Konya\, Turkey\, where Mawlana Rumi is laid to rest. The nuances of the Farsi language\, in which he is fluent\, allows him the unique ability to bring Rumi’s poetry to life and to help listeners recognize Rumi’s essential message of peace\, love\, coexistence\, and connection with the Divine. He is the author and performer of “Layla & Majnun” play produced by Performing Lines in Perth Australia. \n\n\n\nUstadh Feraidoon spends his free time reading\, studying\, and lecturing on many topics including Rumi and a wide collection of Farsi poetry\, spirituality\, and self-development. It is a beautiful\, secure\, and safe city with a low crime rate\, corruption\, and theft. Allah (swt) to this day has granted the city with outstanding provisions for all its inhabitants even though only a few things are actually capable of growing there. Part of its prosperity is because of these two duas Prophet Ibrahim (as) made for the city.\n\n\n\nThere’s a subtle difference between these two duas. In Surah Baqarah\, it asks Allah (swt) to make this a secure city whereas in Surah Ibrahim it says make this city secure.\n\n\n\n\nFIRST DU’A\n\n\n\nDu’a Prophet Ibrahim (as) made before Makkah was an established city. He prayed to Allah asking to turn this land into a city that is safe and peaceful for all its inhabitants. Ibrahim (as) goes on even further to ask that they be provided with ‘fruits’\, meaning blessings\, opportunity\, and prosperity. To this day\, Makkatul Mukarramah (i.e. the holy city of Mecca) has peace and stability. \n\n\n\nThis is the will of Allah. \n\n\n\nNotice how in this du’a Prophet Ibrahim (as) asks for good provisions for all people\, he does not differentiate between the Mushrikeen and the Muslims. \n\n\n\nThe ayah continues\, “[Allah] said. “And whoever disbelieves – I will grant him enjoyment for a little; then I will force him to the punishment of the Fire\, and wretched is the destination.” (2:126) \n\n\n\nThis verse gives an example of rectitude or righteousness of Allah\, so in terms of food\, drinking\, eating\, sleeping\, and playing Allah will give justly to both the believers and non-believers. But he warns us not to be fooled into thinking that wealth or riches is a sign of his blessings. No\, the final destination is to Allah and here we will all face the consequences of our choices. \n\n\n\nSECOND DUA\n\n\n\nThe difference between this du’a and the one covered previously is in two letters\, alif lam (ٱلْبَلَدَ vs بَلَدًا) it is a small difference but the meaning changes. Prophet Ibrahim (as) now returns to Makkah\, he recognizes it as an established city and asks that it remains secure. \n\n\n\nAnother contrast from the previous du’a is instead of asking for good provision for the city\, Prophet Ibrahim (as) already sees that it is prosperous and instead asks to\, “keep me and my sons away from worshipping idols.” \n\n\n\nThe genius of Prophet Ibrahim (as) is that he has the foresight to acknowledge that when people tend to succeed\, they party\, it’s only when they fail they ponder. When things are going well\, we forget the one who made it possible for us. We fall into this trap of believing our superiority and become arrogant when we win. \n\n\n\nIt is here the past communities deviated from the beliefs and standards which brought upon their original success. \n\n\n\nIblees is patient and will wait for the opportune time to cause corruption. \n\n\n\nWe must not get lazy when things are going well\, in fact\, this is the time where we need to double-down in our faith. At the height of your success is when we will be tested the most\, Ibrahim (as) knowing this asks that we are protected from engaging in these sinful activities.
