SUMMARY:Quarterly Red Cross Blood Drive @ MCC Jumu’ahs
DESCRIPTION:As people of faith\, it is in our blood to help. With a 15-minute blood donation\, you can be part of a lifesaving journey that could save up to three lives. \n\n\n\nThe MCC community has saved nearly 375 lives! This is our 30th blood drive during Jumu’ah\, and each has always been fully booked! \n\n\n\nLet’s continue that trajectory at this blood drive and keep all our American Red Cross guests busy when they set up in our Banquet Hall from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on three Fridays in 2025. Sign up at: HTTP://mcceastbay.org/blood-drive \nHere are the Jumu’ah Friday prayer service times: HTTP://mcceastbay.org/prayer \n\n\n\nIn 2025\, MCC will proudly host these quarterly blood drives during Jumuah services from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with our friends at the American Red Cross: \n\n\n\n\n\n\nFriday\, February 21\, 2025 (Stanford Blood Center)\nFriday\, May 23\, 2025 (American Red Cross)\nFriday\, September 26\, 2025 (American Red Cross)\nFriday\, December 5\, 2025 (American Red Cross)\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nA Power Red donation targets O-\, O+\, A-\, and B—only. It takes 20-30 minutes because donors give two units of concentrated Red Blood Cells\, and platelets and plasma are returned. Blood diversity is essential. Now more than ever\, the American Red Cross needs the help of black blood donors. \n\n\n\nBlood donors report feeling a sense of great satisfaction after making their blood donation. Why? Because helping others in need feels good. \n\n\n\nIf you have visited India\, Pakistan\, or another high-risk malaria country and returned within the last 12 months\, you are not eligible to donate blood. See the latest travel-related restrictions to blood donation eligibility. \n\n\n\nEvery person who donates blood at MCC will receive a voucher for a free meal at iniBurger—Gourmet Burgers in Pleasanton. MCC congregation members Leeza and Abdullah Popal\, who own these establishments\, generously donate these vouchers to encourage community and congregation participation. \n\n\n\nMCC Youth: If you are 16 to 18\, here are the donor requirements and parental authorization form link. \n\n\n\nOn the morning of the blood drive\, please complete the Rapid Pass online and bring the print-off to speed up the check-in process. Her desire to continue studying the Deen resulted in multiple trips back to Damascus\, interspersed between her high school\, college\, and medical studies. She was honored to receive Ijazah (authorization to teach) several branches of the Shari’ah sciences at the hands of many renowned scholars\, including many female scholars. She has received Ijazah to teach Tajwid in the Hafs and Warsh recitations from the late eminent Syrian scholar Shaykh Abu Hassan al-Kurdi. In addition to completing several advanced texts of the Shafi’i madhhab\, she is licensed to teach texts of Maliki fiqh\, Adab\, and Ihsan. Currently\, Ustadha Rania teaches online and local classes for The Rahmah Foundation\, Rabata. She is on the faculty of Zaytuna College\, where she teaches courses in Shafi’i fiqh and women’s issues in fiqh and has helped develop and co-direct the Tajweed and Hifz program. \n\n\n\nUstadha Rania is also a medical doctor with a specialty in Psychiatry. She completed her Psychiatric residency and fellowship training at Stanford University\, where she is currently on the faculty as a Clinical Instructor in the Stanford Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences department. Her medical interests include addressing mental health care concerns in the Muslim community- particularly that of Muslim women and girls. She has been awarded grants from the NIMH (National Institute of Mental Health) to research this topic and has presented her findings at several medical conferences. Other ongoing endeavors include compiling manuscripts addressing female-related mental health and medical issues from a fiqh-oriented perspective. She is the Director of the Rahmah Foundation\, a non-profit organization that teaches traditional Islamic knowledge to Muslim women and girls. In this capacity\, she also heads the Murbbiyah Mentoring Program\, which trains young women to teach and mentor Muslim girls and teens. Ustadha Rania is both a wife and a mother; she has been counseling and teaching women classes on Tajwid\, Shafi’i Fiqh\, Ihsan\, marriage\, and raising children since 1999. \n\n\n\nLearn more about Dr. Rania and her work at http://med.stanford.edu/psychiatry/research/MuslimMHLab.html \n\n\n\nEvery Friday evening\, the MCC bustles with activity. SUMMARY:American Muslims: A History Revealed (Untold Stories of Muslims in USA)
DESCRIPTION:The history of the United States is far more complex and storied than commonly understood or conveyed in standard U.S. History textbooks or courses of study. Often overlooked in most renderings of U.S. history are the histories of Muslims in America. American Muslims: A History Revealed addresses that knowledge gap by exploring significant moments in U.S. history through the lived experiences of American Muslims as told through archival sources\, historic sites\, and scholarly research. \n7 p.m. to 9 p.m. | Friday\, May 23 | MCC Conference Room | Join in person or watch virtually at mcceastbay.org/live \nAdnan Dawood\, a longtime MCC congregation member\, will moderate the discussion. We will watch two episodes of this PBS series in the community: Little Mosque on the Prairie and How Islam Influenced Black Americans in 1920s Chicago. \nAs the Muslim holy month of Ramadan ends\, we’re excited to share American Muslims: A History Revealed\, a powerful PBS series that uncovers 200 years of Muslim American history. From enslaved African Muslims to pioneering\, diverse immigrant communities\, this series offers vital stories perfect for reflection. It is hosted by Amna Nawaz from PBS. \nThis PBS series moves beyond inclusion by exploring the histories of Muslims whose lives have been well documented in the archives. Rather than attempting to fit Muslim stories into an already established American historical narrative\, the series seeks to expand the frame of that narrative to reveal that America has always been much more than any singular\, narrow story about it. Further\, the stories here are not intended to be a chronicle of accomplishments or contributions\, of what Muslims have “given” to America\, but how Muslims as Americans have transformed America as much as they have been transformed. These are not just stories of how Muslims become American\, but of America’s becoming\, an ongoing process that includes everyone\, not just American Muslims. The episodes in this series thus offer a way to expand\, deepen\, pluralize\, and complicate commonly held ideas about the stories of Muslims in America\, and more significantly\, of America itself. \n\n– Watch the entire series at https://maestro.tv/picturemotion/american-muslims\n– Discussion guide: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1JxwrZ7taljwW4ej4Flf8VVs7EZ6nvJNA/view\n\nQuestions? events@mcceastbay.org

Spending over 10 years within the Mauritanian tradition (mahdara) system of studying Islam\, Shaykh Rami received licensure (ijaza) to share his wisdom with students. Further enhancing his extensive study of fiqh\, Nsour completed an extraordinary ‘in-residence’ experience\, allowing him to research questions (fatawa) of Islamic faith\, law\, and practice. \nRami Nsour co-founded the Tayba Foundation\, the first organization in the United States to offer a distance-learning program in Islamic Education to incarcerated men and women. Shaykh Rami has extensive experience in curriculum development\, specifically in character (akhlaq)\, and holds a B.A. in Human Development with a focus on Early Childhood. He also obtained an M.A. in Educational Psychology. A resident of the San Francisco Bay Area\, he lives with his wife and three children. \nIn addition\, Rami has dedicated much of his time to teaching\, conducting seminars\, and counseling. He has spent much of his time teaching and aiding Muslims in prison and has seen how knowledge unlocks human potential. His students in the prisons have\, in turn\, taught countless people and invited many people to Islam. He was instrumental in co-founding Dar as-Salaam\, a project dedicated to building and supporting a school in Mauritania. Shaykh Rami serves as a Senior Instructor at SeekersHub Global. Rami co-founded the Tayba Foundation\, which has a correspondence program for Muslim inmates (http://www.taybafoundation.org/). In addition to traditional teaching licenses (ijazah)\, Rami holds a B.A. in Human Development focusing on Early Childhood. Generally considered a moderately challenging route\, it takes an average of 3 h 41 min to complete. This is a very popular area for hiking and running\, so you’ll likely encounter other people while exploring. The best times to visit this trail are January through April. \nPark Features: Deep in a valley framed by oak-covered hills\, with sailboats and sailboards skimming over its waters\, Del Valle is like a lakeside resort only 10 miles south of Livermore. 5\,000 acre Del Valle Regional Park features two swim beaches\, a boat launch\, family and group camping (by reservation) and excellent\, stocked fishing.  \nTrail Highlights: This hike around the northern part of the lake is removed from the busy swim beaches in the southern part of the lake; enjoy the wilderness feel and explore a part of Del Valle you may not have seen before. The contrast in scenery from the ridge of East Shore Trail and the lakeside Heron Bay Trail provides a diverse recreational experience. This hike features several steep climbs and descents and is recommended for those with a good level of fitness. There is a drinking fountain but no restrooms at the trailhead. Be sure to carry plenty of water on your hike.

The Qur’an also reminds us: “Remember Allah during the appointed days.” \nIn the hadith\, we find The Prophet ﷺ mention: “There are no days greater and more beloved to Allah than these ten days of Dhul Hijjah\, so increase in them your declaration of the oneness of Allah (tahleel)\, your exaltation of him (takbeer)\, and your praise of Him (tahmeed).” \nThe scholars remind us to spend these sacred days by increasing in worship\, specifically: \n\nFast for the first 9 days\, or at least on Day of ‘Arafah (9th of Dhul-Hijjah) — which is on Friday\, July 8.\nIncrease in your recitation of the Qur’an – at least Surah Yaseen after Fajr\, Surah Waqi’ah & Mulk anytime after Maghrib.\nIncrease in Sadaqah — aim to give a small amount every day.\nIncrease in supererogatory (nawafil) prayers — maintain all your sunnah prayers & aim to wake for tahajjud.\nIncrease in Istighfar (seeking forgiveness) — aim for 100X a day.\nReach out to your relatives\, forgive & forget the past.\nSignificantly increase your Salawaat upon the Prophet (ﷺ) — aim for 100X a day.\n\nMake Du’a and talk to Allah as much as you can. \nJazakAllah Khayr\nImam Tahir Anwar
