Her master’s thesis was “Toward a Single-Consciousness: Challenging ‘un-American-ness’ of People of Color.” She is most interested in political and legal philosophy\, particularly ideas around race\, social justice\, and equity. \nBhawana Mishra started teaching at Evergreen Valley College in 2011. She believes that Philosophy is something one should not simply learn\, but something one should learn to DO because philosophy and ideas can change oneself and the world! Her greatest hope is that students discover their ideas about some of the biggest questions and are willing to evolve. Outside work\, she loves being outdoors\, traveling\, doing logic and math puzzles\, reading\, and watching British period dramas. She is married to her best friend\, with whom she has two children. \nIslamic philosophy is a field of study that examines philosophical concepts and inquiries within the context of Islamic tradition and thought\, often seeking to reconcile faith and reason. It explores fundamental questions about existence\, knowledge\, morality\, and the divine\, drawing from the Quran\, Islamic teachings\, and various philosophical traditions\, including Greek philosophy.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nKey Aspects of Islamic Philosophy:\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nReconciliation of Faith and Reason:\n\nA core aim of Islamic philosophy is to harmonize religious beliefs with rational inquiry\, exploring the relationship between revelation and reason.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nInfluence of Greek Philosophy:\n\nIslamic philosophers\, particularly in the early Islamic Golden Age\, engaged with and adapted Greek philosophical concepts\, including Aristotelianism and Neoplatonism.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMajor Themes and Schools:\n\nIslamic philosophy encompasses a wide range of themes\, including metaphysics\, epistemology\, ethics\, and theology\, and has seen the emergence of various schools of thought\, such as Falsafa (using Aristotelian and Neoplatonic frameworks) and Kalam (dealing with theological debates).  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNotable Thinkers:\n\nKey figures in Islamic philosophy include Al-Kindi\, Al-Farabi\, Ibn Sina (Avicenna)\, Ibn Rushd (Averroes)\, Al-Ghazali\, Ibn Khaldun\, and others who have made significant contributions to philosophical discourse.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nImpact and Legacy:\n\nIslamic philosophy has influenced various intellectual traditions\, including medieval scholasticism and modern European philosophy\, leaving a lasting impact on the development of philosophical thought.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn essence\, Islamic philosophy represents a unique intellectual endeavor that blends Islamic beliefs and practices with philosophical inquiry\, exploring the nature of reality\, knowledge\, and the divine through a lens informed by both faith and reason.

He has also served as an Adjunct Associate Professor of Islam and world religions at NOVA College in Virginia. He has taught numerous Islam courses at Shenandoah University\, Johns Hopkins University\, Kabul University\, and Salam University in Afghanistan. \nDr. Nassimi served as the vice chairman of the Council of Muslim Organizations in the Washington\, D.C.\, Metropolitan area for seven years. He has also served as a volunteer Imam\, Friday Khateeb\, instructor\, and youth and family counselor at the ADAMS Center and many other Masajid in Northern Virginia for 24 years. \nDr. Nassimi has a unique and combined educational background in Engineering and Islamic Studies. After growing up and completing his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering at Kabul University in Afghanistan\, he came to the United States. He earned his master’s degree in Electrical Engineering at Purdue University in Indiana. He worked as an electrical engineer in the field of telecommunications and satellite communications for 15 years. Then\, due to his passion for Islam and a desire to serve society in more meaningful ways\, he decided to transition his career from engineering to Islamic Studies and Services. \nDr. Nassimi began his academic studies in Islamic sciences by first learning the Arabic language at Imam Muhammad University in Riyadh\, Saudi Arabia. Then\, he moved to Virginia to join the Institute of Arabic and Islamic Sciences. Later\, he earned a second master’s degree in Islamic Studies at Cordoba University\, and then he did his PhD in Islamic Studies from the University of Birmingham in England in 2008. His PhD thesis was on a comparative review of English translations of the Qur’an\, which is currently available in the university’s online library. Upon completing his MBA from the University of California\, Berkeley\, he transitioned into social impact consulting\, supporting nonprofits and philanthropic organizations. He now works at the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU)\, leading legislative advocacy campaigns across states to help build legal protections in areas such as immigration and free speech.  \nAfraz memorized the Qur’an after 8 years of study and conducts tajweed classes for the local community. Afraz expanded on his studies by attending Zaytuna College’s Summer Quranic Arabic Intensive\, completing a classical Arabic course through Studio Arabiya\, and studying under Imam Khalid Latif for several years. He is currently a seminary student at The Majlis in their Community Servants Program.  \nAs part of his community work\, Afraz serves as a teacher at Lighthouse Mosque in Oakland\, where he conducts weekly classes on Qur’anic engagement and spiritual development. He volunteers as a chaplain for jail populations and supports student programming at colleges like Los Medanos and Stanford. Afraz delivers khutbahs across the Bay Area and has led taraweeh at Berkeley Masjid and Lighthouse Mosque\, while also conducting nightly talks on the lessons found in each section of the Qur’an.

Generally considered a moderately challenging route. This is a very popular area for fishing\, hiking\, and horseback riding\, so you’ll likely encounter other people while exploring. The trail is open year-round and is beautiful to visit anytime. \nThis is a beautiful hiking area with both paved and dirt trails that are moderately steep and lovely views of the water. If desired\, you can avoid a large portion of the paved East Shore Trail by taking the southern Cameron Loop after crossing the Honker Bay bridge\, Ten Hills Trail\, and Indian Cove Trail\, leaving a very short paved section to the Marina. \nAccessibility: \nAccording to Access Northern California (https://accessnca.org/access-northern-california/explore/explore-detail-view/?site_id=238): Lake Chabot is a popular destination for families and bustles on weekends. Among the many amenities you can find are multiple picnic areas\, a grassy play area\, fishing\, an outdoor fitness zone with interactive exercise machines (one is designed for wheelchair access)\, and miles of lakefront trails. The Marina has a café\, tackle and bait shop\, rental boats\, and seasonal lake tours aboard the tour boat “Chabot Queen.” The ramp to the boats is accessible but quite steep. To board the tour boat\, a portable ramp is available. The paved West Shore and East Shore trails around the lake offer some access\, although their steep terrain may deter some with limited mobility. They are worth the effort if possible because it feels as though you’re far from the nearby bustling cities. Although paved\, the West Shore Trail has numerous steep grades throughout as it travels high above the lake\, passing in and out of shade provided by oaks\, bay laurel\, willow\, and cottonwood trees. Poison oak is plentiful\, as well as vetch\, blackberries\, and blue-eyed grass. A few interpretive panels about the dam’s history are towards the end of this 2-mile route. Benches are scattered throughout\, although most have a steep grade to reach them.

Sr. Indira is hugely excited to offer summer camps at MCC East Bay for the second year! She holds a Master’s degree in Science\, emphasizing Physical Education. Over the last twelve years\, she has organized summer and winter camps for youth in Saudi Arabia\, Turkey\, Bosnia\, and California. Sr. Indira is passionate about working with children and youth to provide a safe\, fun\, and enriching space for them to enjoy their summer! Sr. Indira looks to hire highly energetic\, positive\, and knowledgeable Muslims to offer beneficial and enjoyable sessions throughout the camp day\, insha’Allah. She has played professional basketball and has been a director of various programs since 2014. \nCollege Counselor Team:\nGirls Counselor and Lead: Sr. Masoma brings years of hands-on experience teaching at various Islamic summer camps\, Sunday schools\, and community programs throughout the Bay Area. A Hafidhah of the Quran and dedicated youth mentor\, she has led Quran\, Islamic studies\, and character-building classes. Masoma is passionate about creating meaningful spaces where young people feel supported\, inspired\, and connected to their faith. She founded a literacy nonprofit\, coordinated outreach efforts\, and served on various leadership boards. This summer\, she’s excited to bring her energy and love for teaching to make it unforgettable in sha Allah. She will also be a supervisor of the camp and your point of contact for girls.  \nBoys Counselor and Lead: Br. Kashif\, a senior at San Jose State\, finished Hifz in 2018. He attended K-8th grade at Northstar Islamic School\, learning everything from advanced Fiqh and Islamic studies to Seerah. He has experience teaching children throughout the years\, being an after-school maktab teacher for Quran and Islamic studies. He enjoys being involved with growing children’s knowledge of everything Islam promotes\, not just in the textbooks but in real-world scenarios. Through her\, with Sayyidunā ‘Alī ﵁\, the blessed lineage of her father\, the Messenger of God ﷺ\, was preserved. She resembled him in every way\, and of all people she was the dearest to his heart. She stood with him ﷺ and strove always to serve and aid him\, taking care of him after the death of her mother\, Sayyidatunā Khadīja ﵂. Fāṭima was brave\, strong\, forbearing\, dutiful\, gracious\, and protective. She was a loving mother and an inspiring example to her sons\, Imams Ḥasan and Ḥusayn ﵁. Fāṭima al-Zahrā ﵂ tells the life story of its subject in a vivid\, straightforward manner\, linking it to the history of Islam from the early times of tribulation to the establishment of the Dīn and the Community based in al-Madīna. Its style and approach are very suitable for children\, as well as for older readers. The author\, Dr Muhammad Abduh Yamani (d.1431/2010)\, who served for several years as Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Information\, was a distinguished educationalist\, author and businessman\, notable also for his piety and philanthropy. \n\n  \n\n  \n\n  \n\n  \n\n  \n\n  \n\n  \n\n  \n\n  \n\n
