DESCRIPTION:Our little Tri-Valley Muslimahs in Girl Scouts Troop hosted a backpack and toy drives for our community’s most deserving families. \n\n\n\nWe now sweetly support these young girls: by purchasing cookies for you and your family this Friday. Girl Scout cookies are now halal-certified. \n\n\n\nYou can also gift a cookie box to needy families served by the MCC Food Pantry by purchasing a box after Jumu’ah and placing the cookies in the Toy bin in the MCC lobby. In addition\, Prof. Bazian is a lecturer in the Departments of Near Eastern and Asian American and Asian Diaspora Studies at the University of California\, Berkeley. Dr. Bazian between 2002-2007\, also served as an adjunct professor of law at Boalt Hall School of Law at the University of California\, Berkeley. He teaches courses on Islamic Law and Society\, Islam in America: Communities and Institutions\, De-Constructing Islamophobia and Othering of Islam\, Religious Studies\, and Middle Eastern Studies. In addition to Berkeley\, Prof. Bazian served as a visiting Professor in Religious Studies at Saint Mary’s College of California 2001-2007 and adviser to the Religion\, Politics and Globalization Center at UC Berkeley. In Spring 2009\, Prof. Bazian founded at Berkeley the Islamophobia Research and Documentation Project at the Center for Race and Gender\, a research unit dedicated to the systematic study of Othering Islam and Muslims. Prof. Bazian in Spring 2012 launched the Islamophobia Studies Journal\, which is published bi-annually through a collaborative effort between the Islamophobia Research and Documentation Project of the Center for Race and Gender at the University of California at Berkeley\, the Arab and Muslim Ethnicities and Diasporas Initiative for the School of Ethnic Studies at San Francisco State University; the Center for Islamic Studies at the Graduate Theological Union\, the International Centre for Muslim and non-Muslim Understanding at the University of South Australia\, and Zaytuna College. In addition to academic work\, Dr\, Bazian is a weekly columnist for the Turkish Daily Sabah Newspaper and Turkey Agenda online magazine. Dr. Bazian is founder and national Chair of American Muslims for Palestine\, board member of the Islamic Scholarship Fund\, Muslim Legal Fund of America\, President of Dollar for Deen Charity\, and Chair of Northern California Islamic Council. \n\n\n\nMohammed Abdul Baseer is an engineer and a former president of Islamic Society of East Bay (ISEB) in Fremont. DESCRIPTION:For ages 4 to 12\, join Sister Emira Mustafa for craft-filled Saturday afternoons this Ramadan where our kids create beautiful Ramadan crafts. \n\n\n\nSaturdays\, March 25th\, April 1st\, 8th & 15th | 1:30 p.m. | Ages 4 to 12 | Conference Room | $25/session or $90 for all four | Register at mcceastbay.org/ramadan-kids \n\n\n\nActivities on Saturday\, March 25th: \n\n\n\n\n– 30 Acts of Kindness Challenge\n\n\n\n\nActivities on Saturday\, April 1st: \n\n\n\n\n– Moon Phases Ramadan Decorations\n\n\n\n\nActivities on Saturday\, April 8th: \n\n\n\n\n– Framed Copper Embossing\n\n\n\n\nActivities on Saturday\, April 15th: \n\n\n\n\n– Eid Mubarak Door Wreath or Wooden Plaque Sign\n\n\n\n\nThese are parent-and-me activities. Parents are required to stay and monitor children throughout the event. Only registered children receive materials for the projects. Fons Vitae is currently engaged in the monumental task of bringing out Ghazali’s Ihya in readable English for parents and teachers and adapting it to accommodate children’s workbooks\, school curricula\, and an instructional DVD. The Book of Knowledge and The Principles of the Creed educational sets are available and used internationally\, with Purity and Prayer nearing completion. It is a quest as old as legend. The truth is that alchemy exists\, but not of base metals\, but of the human heart. \nImam al-Ghazali (1058-1111 CE) is probably one of the greatest alchemists ever. And in an epoch where the human condition is in its direst straits\, never more has there been a need for the chemistry of Imam al-Ghazali. \nA theologian\, jurist\, philosopher\, mystic\, and polymath\, Abu Hamid Muhammad ibn Muhammad al-Ghazali is not only ranked amongst Islam’s finest scholars but is one of mankind’s finest students of the human condition. Known as Algazel to the medieval world\, he was born in Tus\, the Khorasan province of ancient Persia. \nWhen he had the academic world at his feet in his early thirties\, he spurned fame and fortune to go into a mode of self-denial and spiritual seclusion that lasted for many years. \nAlready an acknowledged master of Holy Law\, he re-entered society as a practiced Sufi – a true gnostic. A genius\, Imam al-Ghazali was fully proficient in Greek and Roman philosophy\, and he debunked its central tenets\, proving that Revelation was always going to be superior to human reason. Human thinking could never evolve\, he wrote\, in an existential vacuum. \nAll this prompted him to write his magnum opus\, the Ihya ‘Ulumad-Din (the Revival of the Religious Sciences). Today\, it is regarded as one of the classic works on the human psyche. In the Ihya the author explains how to turn one’s base instincts and desires into the golden ideal. \nToday’s modern world – devolved of spirituality and fraught with destructive ills such as materialism\, multi-national greed\, and violence – needs people like Imam al-Ghazali. This is because Imam al-Ghazali teaches a way to balance the body and soul\, thus allowing us to reconcile modernity with spirituality in its broadest and most universal sense. DESCRIPTION:On every odd night in the blessed last ten nights of Ramadan\, join us after Taraweeh ends at about 11:15 p.m. in the MCC Prayer Hall for special Qur’an recitation\, zikr (devotional acts)\, Salat Tasbeeh\, time for individual worship\, advice\, nasheed\, and a free community Suhoor meal before Fajr prayer in congregation. \n\n\n\nThe blessed Laylat al-Qadr 27th night is on Monday\, April 17. The Qur’an Khatam completion in Taraweeh begins at 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday\, April 19. \n\n\n\nQari Amar Bellaha and a special guest speaker facilitate the nightly odd-night program. No RSVP is needed to attend Qiyam. DESCRIPTION:Our little Tri-Valley Muslimahs in Girl Scouts Troop hosted a backpack and toy drives for our community’s most deserving families. \n\n\n\nWe now sweetly support these young girls: by purchasing cookies for you and your family this Friday. Girl Scout cookies are now halal-certified. \n\n\n\nYou can also gift a cookie box to needy families served by the MCC Food Pantry by purchasing a box after Jumu’ah and placing the cookies in the Toy bin in the MCC lobby. He pursued a rigorous and structured classical curriculum with Islamic authorities\, focusing on Islamic theology\, epistemology\, ontology\, language\, jurisprudence\, and legal theory. Over the last twenty years\, he has taught the Islamic disciplines to senior students and professors of Islamic studies. His research interests include exploring how modern challenges can be addressed through Islam’s rich tradition of knowledge and scholarship. Shaykh Talal is fluent in Arabic. Shaykh Talal joined the Zaytuna College faculty in Fall of 2017.  \n\n\n\nMore Shaykh Talal: https://mcceastbay.org/talal \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nSidi Mahdy Amine is a Zaytuna College alumnus and practicing attorney. He also teaches Islamic Studies at ILM Tree and he serves as Convert Care Coordinator for Ta’leef Collective. “I want people to feel the true beauty of Islam when they encounter Ta’leef. Was not our Prophet (upon him peace and blessings) the radiant embodiment of outer and inner beauty? One who saw him was in awe\, and one who knew him fell in love. I hope Taleef translates that experiential beauty to a relevant American context while honoring the ethos and principles of the rich Islamic tradition.” Ustadh Mahdy Amine was born and raised in Chicago. Attending Universal School\, he served as captain of the high school basketball team\, then graduated from Loyola University Chicago at the age of 19 with a double bachelor in economics and political science\, and after that from the University of Minnesota School of Law-all while serving as President of the Muslim Students Association at each respective institution. Concurrent with his studies and work\, Mahdy helped found CAIR Chicago\, has been teaching for nearly 20 years\, and served as a member of the band Noorification\, which released two albums\, and four music videos\, and performed at over 100 national and international venues. Mahdy is married\, has three little girls\, and is blessed to be a survivor. In 2012\, Mahdy resigned from his job as Corporate Counsel for Dell Corporation to attend Zaytuna College\, the first-ever accredited Muslim liberal arts college in the US\, graduating with the first class in 2014. He then visited and studied briefly in Tarim\, Yemen. Mahdy currently works as Senior Vice President\, General Counsel of a global cancer diagnostic and research laboratory\, teaches Islamic Studies at Ilm Tree\, a home school co-op in Lafayette\, CA\, regularly delivers sermons at various communities\, and serves as Convert Care Coordinator at Ta’leef Collective in Fremont\, California. \n\n\n\nMore Sidi Mahdi: https://mcceastbay.org/mahdy  \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nSidi Shaan Mukhtar was raised in the MCC community and from a young age had been involved in youth programs throughout the Bay Area.
