DESCRIPTION:For girls ages 13-18\, join us for an intensive week of spiritual renewal\, where we go over Imam al-Haddad’s work\, The Lives of Man\, and connect ourselves to our Creator by learning the five stages of human life. \n\n\n\nMonday – Friday\,  July 24 – July 28 | 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. | Register required at mcceastbay.org/youth-intensive \n\n\n\nAbout the book \n\n\n\nA dramatic exposition of the classical Muslim division of human life into five stages: before conception\, life in the world\, life in the grave\, the resurrection\, and heaven or hell. Extensive Qur’anic and Hadith references explain the condition of the soul at each stage.Based on the Qu’ran and Hadith\, in this fascinating book\, Imam al-Haddad explains that every human being passes through several “lives:” before conception\, life in the world\, life in the grave\, the Resurrection\, and finally\, the Garden or the Fire. A complete Muslim must be aware of each of these if he is to be sufficiently prepared for eternal life. \n\n\n\nWhat happens after Death? Who are “Munkar and Nakir?” What will Heaven and Hell be like? What signs should we expect before the day of Judgement? Who is the Dajjal? When will the Mahdi appear? \n\n\n\nThese and many other questions are answered\, on the basis of the Qu’ran and Hadith\, in this fascinating book. SUMMARY:Fast On the Day Of Ashura
DESCRIPTION:We are now in Muharram\, which is the first month of the Islamic new year. The blessed day of ‘Ashura is this Friday\, July 28. \n\n\n\nPlease calendar now to fast on the 10th of this month and either the day before or after (so the 9th or 11th of Muharram). \n\n\n\nThe 10th of Muharram is on Friday\, July 28\, so let’s please fast either Thursday and Friday or Friday and Saturday\, inshaAllah. MCC will host a community Iftar on Friday\, July 28. \n\n\n\n\n– Shaykh Rami Nsour will also give a talk about this particular time on the day of Ashura: https://mcceastbay.org/event/ashura-program-iftar\n\n\n\n– More talks & sermons on Muharram: https://mcceastbay.org/muharram\n\n\n\n– For more information about the Day of Ashura\, see https://seekersguidance.org/articles/the-day-of-ashura\n\n\n\n\nWhat is the Day of Ashura?\n\n\n\nAshura marks the day that Moses and the Israelites were saved from Pharaoh by God creating a path in the Sea and is the Islamic equivalent to Yom Kippur. In Sunni Islam\, Ashura follows the traditions of Judaism with a day of fasting – commemorating the parting of the Red Sea for Moses and his followers to escape Pharaoh. The Prophet Muhammad thought this tradition was worth following\, so he fasted and encouraged his followers to do the same. On this day\, Muslims fast and celebrate by reflecting\, showing respect\, and thanks. Is fasting required? Fasting is not compulsory during Ashura\, but some Muslims choose to fast for one or two days. This is because the Prophet Muhammad was said to have fasted on the day of Ashura. \n\n\n\nWhen is Ashura 2022?\n\n\n\nAshura falls on the tenth day of Muharram (the first month of the Islamic year) in the Muslim calendar – which this year is Monday\, August 8. \n\n\n\nIn 2022\, the day is commemorated\, beginning on Sunday evening and ending on the evening of Monday\, August 8. Islamic religious dates are tabular: they begin at sunset on the first evening and end at sunset on the second evening. The date changes each year as the calendar used by Muslims – the Hijri calendar – is ten to 12 days shorter than the Gregorian. \n\n\n\nQuestions? events@mcceastbay.org \n\n\n\n\n– More talks & sermons on Muharram: https://mcceastbay.org/muharram\n\n\n\n\nThe month of Muharram is considered special by all Muslims and is one of the four sacred months of the year\, which brings with it the day of Ashura\, or the “Tenth day” of the month when fasting is recommended (with or without the addition of a day prior or after). \n\n\n\nFollowing the Prophetic tradition\, MCC invites all East Bay residents to fast on the day of Ashura\, which starts on the evening of Sunday\, August 7\, and during the day of Monday\, August 8. \n\n\n\nThe first is the Hijrah\, the migration of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and his companions from Mecca to Medina in 622 AD. This birth of a pluralistic Muslim community marks the beginning of the Islamic calendar and served as the key turning point for the first Muslims and the future of Islam. The Hijrah also marks the beginning of a new chapter for humanity\, where freedom of faith and justice for all became the cardinal principles of the newly founded society and a model for us to aspire to. \n\n\n\nThe other two historical events took place on the 10th day of Muharram\, called Ashura\, and after completing the migration to Medina\, the Prophet witnessed the Jews of Medina fasting to celebrate the victory of Prophet Musa (PBUH) and his people over the Egyptian Pharaoh. Prophet Muhammad then asked his companions to join this fasting tradition to express their gratitude to Allah for saving Musa and his people. \n\n\n\nOn the same day\, just six decades later\, the Prophet’s grandson Husayn ibn Ali was martyred in the Battle of Karbala. This was one of the saddest and most heartbreaking events in the history of Islam\, which we continue to mourn today. As we commemorate Ashura\, for Prophet Musa and Imam Husayn\, we are called to re-commit to our struggle against all forms of tyranny and oppression and to seek liberty and justice for all. Following the Prophet Muhammad tradition\, MCC invites you all to fast on the day of Ashura. \n\n\n\nLet us take this day to continue the practice of our beloved Prophet and pray for the unity of our ummah (community).

SUMMARY:Lessons from Ashura (Program & Iftar) | Shaykh Rami Nsour
DESCRIPTION:Join Shaykh Rami Nsour for spiritual insights about the significance of the Day of ‘Ashura from Hadith\, the significance of events that occurred after the life of the Prophet (peace be upon him)\, and what it means to the community today. \n\n\n\n7:15 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. | Friday\, July 28 | Conference Room | Join in person or virtually at mcceastbay.org/live \n\n\n\nThe blessed day of ‘Ashura is this Friday\, July 28. Maghrib on this day is at 8:23 p.m. \n\n\n\nIn following the Prophetic tradition\, we encourage our community to fast on Friday\, July 28\, as well as the day before or after (so either Thursday and Friday or Friday and Saturday)\, insha’Allah. RSVP at https://mcceastbay.org/fast-ashura \n\n\n\nPlease note that once registration closes\, you will have to get on the waitlist. Being on the waitlist does not mean that you are registered for Iftar. Waitlisted people will be allowed to register only/if there are any cancellations. \n\n\n\nFor more information about the Day of Ashura\, see https://seekersguidance.org/articles/the-day-of-ashura \n\n\n\n\n– More talks & sermons on Muharram: https://mcceastbay.org/muharram\n\n\n\n– For more information about the Day of Ashura\, see https://seekersguidance.org/articles/the-day-of-ashura\n\n\n\n– More Shaykh Rami: https://mcceastbay.org/rami\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat is the Day of Ashura?\n\n\n\nAshura marks the day that Moses and the Israelites were saved from Pharaoh by God creating a path in the Sea and is the Islamic equivalent to Yom Kippur. \n\n\n\nIn Sunni Islam\, Ashura follows the traditions of Judaism with a day of fasting – commemorating the parting of the Red Sea for Moses and his followers to escape Pharaoh. \n\n\n\nThe Prophet Muhammad thought this tradition was worth following\, so he fasted and encouraged his followers to do the same. \n\n\n\nOn this day\, Muslims fast and celebrate by reflecting\, showing respect\, and thanks. \n\n\n\nIs fasting required?\n\n\n\nFasting is not compulsory during Ashura\, but some Muslims fast for one or two days. This is because the Prophet Muhammad was said to have fasted on the day of Ashura. \n\n\n\nWhen is Ashura 23?\n\n\n\nAshura falls on the tenth day of Muharram (the first month of the Islamic year) in the Muslim calendar – this year is Friday\, July 28. \n\n\n\nIn 2023\, the day is commemorated\, beginning on Sunday evening and ending on Friday\, July 28. \n\n\n\nIslamic religious dates are tabular: they begin at sunset on the first evening and end at sunset on the second evening. The date changes each year as the calendar used by Muslims – the Hijri calendar – is ten to 12 days shorter than the Gregorian. \n\n\n\nQuestions? events@mcceastbay.org \n\n\n\n\nMore talks & sermons on Muharram: https://mcceastbay.org/muharram\n\n\n\n\nThe month of Muharram is considered unique by all Muslims and is one of the four sacred months of the year\, which brings with it the day of Ashura\, or the “Tenth day” of the month when fasting is recommended (with or without the addition of a day prior or after). \n\n\n\nFollowing the Prophetic tradition\, MCC invites all East Bay residents to fast on the day of Ashura\, which starts on the evening of Thursday\, July 28\, and during the day of Friday\, July 29. \n\n\n\nThe first is the Hijrah\, the migration of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and his companions from Mecca to Medina in 622 AD. This birth of a pluralistic Muslim community marks the beginning of the Islamic calendar and serves as the critical turning point for the first Muslims and the future of Islam. The Hijrah also marks the beginning of a new chapter for humanity\, where freedom of faith and justice for all became the cardinal principles of the newly founded society and a model for us to aspire to. \n\n\n\nThe other two historical events took place on the 10th day of Muharram\, called Ashura. \n\n\n\nAfter completing the migration to Medina\, the Prophet witnessed the Jews of Medina fasting to celebrate the victory of Prophet Musa (PBUH) and his people over the Egyptian Pharaoh. Prophet Muhammad then asked his companions to join this fasting tradition to express gratitude to Allah for saving Musa and his people. \n\n\n\nOn the same day\, just six decades later\, the Prophet’s grandson Husayn ibn Ali was martyred in the Battle of Karbala. This was one of the saddest and most heartbreaking events in the history of Islam\, which we continue to mourn today. \n\n\n\nAs we commemorate Ashura for Prophet Musa and Imam Husayn\, we are called to re-commit to our struggle against all forms of tyranny and oppression and to seek liberty and justice for all. \n\n\n\nFollowing the Prophet Muhammad tradition\, MCC invites you all to fast on the day of Ashura. Let us take this day to continue the practice of our beloved Prophet and pray for the unity of our Ummah (community).
