This year\, he will be teaching Arabic and Islamic Studies full-time at Averroes High School. Siddique has extensive teaching experience\, starting in 1988 at Al-Huda School in Maryland. He also served as a Vice Principal and Director of Arabic and Islamic Studies Programs at North Star in Hayward\, CA\, for ten years. Siddique is passionate about education as it helps him grow and positively impact youth. DESCRIPTION:Join us for a weekly book club and discussion group as we collectively strive to purify our hearts and grow closer to Allah through understanding and treating the spiritual diseases that afflict us all. We will read and reflect on Hamza Yusuf’s translation and commentary of Imam Mawlud’s classical work\, Purification of the Heart: Signs\, Symptoms\, and Cures of the Spiritual Diseases of the Heart. \nEach session will cover one chapter\, including group discussions and reflections on heart diseases and their treatments. \nWhile we encourage consistent attendance for shared reflection and continuity\, each session is self-contained\, and participants are welcome to drop in even if they cannot commit to attending every week. DESCRIPTION:The intention behind this Imam’s panel is to create a space where our community can hear directly from their local Imams\, benefit from their insights\, and strengthen awareness and connection across our San Franicso Bay Area institutions. \nSidi Shaan Mukhtar will moderate the discussion and guide a conversation that allows each of the Imams to share their perspectives and experiences. Born in London\, England\, he has lived in the San Francisco Bay Area since 1983. After completing his religious studies\, Imam Tahir has served the Bay Area Muslim community since 2000. He also teaches Islamic Law at the renowned Zaytuna College\, America’s first Muslim liberal arts college\, located in Berkeley\, CA. In addition\, he is the founding board member of Averroes High School\, the Bay Area’s first Muslim high school. He is currently the chairman of the board of NISA\, the North American Islamic Shelter for the Abused\, an organization that works towards alleviating issues related to domestic violence. He has a passion for community service. He served on the Human Rights Commission for the City of San Jose for over 5 years and on the Human Relations Commission for the County of Santa Clara for one year. He also leads a group for Hajj each year. \nSidi Shaan Mukhtar \nSidi Shaan Mukhtar was born in the Bay Area and raised in the MCC community from a young age. Shaan has actively contributed to establishing MSAs at high schools and community colleges\, as well as youth halaqas\, at various mosques in the San Francisco Bay Area. Shaan holds a BA in Political Science from UC Davis and has pursued a passion for Islamic learning. He attended the Ilm Tree Homeschooling Cooperative during middle school\, where he studied Islamic Sciences under Shaykh Rami Nsour.   During college\, Shaan took a gap year to study Arabic in Jordan. He is currently pursuing his MA in Islamic Studies at the Islamic Seminary of America (TISA)\, where he studies alongside senior American Muslim scholars\, including Shaykh Yasir Qadhi\, Shaykha Tamara Gray\, and Dr. James Jones. This recognition enlightens us and deepens our knowledge of his teachings.
