MUSLIMS TUTORING FOSTER YOUTH
Allah (swt) mentions the yatîm (orphans) 23 times in the Holy Qur'an, reminding us of our collective responsibility to care for them and provide for their needs. Join us in this opportunity to help Oakland elementary school-age children in the foster care system improve their reading and literacy skills. These children are orphans: they have been removed from their biological parents by court order and have understandably fallen behind academically. Studies have shown that the ability to read by third grade is a key indicator in whether someone will go on to college and career or prison or even early death.  You can make a difference!

Tutoring will be online during after school hours. Minimum commitment is one hour per week--but please commit to continuing for the whole school year. These children have had a lot of disruption in their lives, so our consistency is very important, insha'Allah.

We're also hoping to start a book donation program so the kids can accumulate their own personal libraries of books they've read and have memories of reading along with their tutor, insha'Allah.

This is a pilot program, so please only sign up if you're able to be flexible and understand that their are unique challenges in working with this population. After we receive this interest form, you will be directed to how to complete the background check required by the school system.

Please keep these kids in your du'as! May Allah (swt) bless us with taufiq in being of benefit.
