Blessed Fast on Day of Arafat

July 19

We cannot host our annual Arafat Iftar this year. We strongly encourage you to fast this Monday, July 19.

Hadith: “Fasting on the Day of Arafah expiates for sins of the previous year and the coming year.”

Abu Hafsah, may Allah be pleased with him, reported that the Prophet (SAW), upon whom be peace, said: “Fasting on the Day of ‘Arafah absolves the sins for two years: the previous year and the coming year, and fasting on ‘Ashura, (the tenth day of Muharram) atones for the sins of previous years.”

According to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, the first 10 days of this month are a special time for devotion. This applies to all Muslims, not just those who are partaking in the pilgrimage.

Ibn ‘Abbas (May Allah be pleased with them) reported: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, “There are no days during which the righteous action is so pleasing to Allah than these days (i.e., the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah).” He was asked: “O Messenger of Allah, not even Jihad in the Cause of Allah?” He (PBUH) replied, “Not even Jihad in the Cause of Allah, except in case one goes forth with his life and his property and does not return with either of it.” [Al- Bukhari]
