For Children & Adults Ages 13+: Join a six-week calligraphy session with Calligrapher Zubair Simab for beginner & intermediate students. The class will be divided into two sessions:
- From 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., students can learn the popular Thuluth style of calligraphy. Register for the one-hour session here.
- From 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., students can learn the Dewani style, 16th-century Ottoman script, which will be offered for the first time! Register here.
In both sessions, students will learn the following:
- Understanding of pen, paper, and ink
- Preparing the traditional calligraphy pen
- Technically analyzing alphabet letters in Thuluth style
- Introduction to the fundamentals of composition
Students can attend one or both sessions.

About the Instructor:
Zubair Simab is a Danville-based and award-winning traditional calligrapher and Silicon Valley engineer. He is an active traditional arts practitioner and teacher in his local community. Zubair has exhibited, lectured, and demonstrated throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. His initial passion for calligraphy was sparked in his birthplace of Kabul, Afghanistan, where he began training in calligraphy as a young boy. Twenty-five years ago, Zubair returned to the serious study and practice of traditional calligraphy. Zubair is influenced by the Afghan and Turkish master calligraphers. His pieces are based on Farsi poetry, verses from the Quran, and traditional Afghan and Arabic proverbs.
