Join us for a full-day retreat to learn the essential elements of Aqida (creed), Fiqh (the classical Shafi’i school of law), and Tasawwuf(self-purification) taught by Shaykh Zakariya AbdelAziz, the Imam at Masjid Vaughan and an instructor at Dar al-Burhan in Ontario.

We will be using the book The Essentials of Islam by Ahmad ibn Zayn. Please note that MCC will not be providing the book.
Lunch will not be provided. After the program ends, dinner will be provided to those who registered for the retreat.

The event will not be publicly live-streamed. Public release of the recordings will be at the discretion of every speaker. There’s no guarantee recordings will be released on the media channels for MCC East Bay. Please try to attend the program in person or live online. The event will take place at Pacific Standard Time.

About Shaykh Zakaria Abdelaziz
Shaykh Zakaria Abdelaziz was born in Toronto, Canada. At the age of 12, he moved with his family to Egypt to learn and study Arabic. In 2006, he moved to Tarim, Yemen, and at the age of 14, began studying at the prestigious Dar al-Mustafa Institute for Islamic Studies. He graduated with honors from Dar al-Mustafa’s rigorous Alamiyya Program. The three-year program is the highest level of Shariah studies offered at Dar al-Mustafa in Tarim, Yemen, and is preceded by seven years of classical training in the ancillary, revelatory, and theoretical sciences.
After ten years of meticulous full-time study with qualified scholars, Shaykh Zakariya was appointed a lecturer at Dar al-Mustafa. He has been granted authorizations (ijaza) in the fields of Canonical Qur’anic Recitations (‘ilm al-qira’at), Hadith Narration and Understanding (Riwaya wa Dirayat al-Hadith), and Islamic Law (Fiqh) in the Shafi School.
Shaykh Zakaria is also qualified to teach Qur’anic Exegesis (tafsir al-Qur’an), Ethics (‘ilm al-akhlaq), Legal Theory (usul al-fiqh), Ilm al-Kalam (Scholastic Theology), Logic (mantiq), Dialectics (al-bahth wa al-munazara), Arabic morphology (sarf) Arabic grammar (nahw), Arabic rhetoric (balagha), and Arabic literature (adab).
His teachers include Habib Umar bin Hafiz, Habib Ali al-Mashhur bin Hafiz, Habib Abu Bakr al-Adani al-Mashhur, Habib Muhammad bin Abdullah al-Aydarus, Shaykh Umar al-Khatib, and others.
In late 2021, Shaykh Zakaria Abdelaziz returned to Canada and currently serves as imam at Masjid Vaughan and instructor at Dar al-Burhan.
