Since 2021, each Ramadan, MCC also provides three dates per day for each of the nearly 2,000 inmates in California’s 20 prisons. Alhamdulillah.
In Ramadan ’23, the generous MCC congregation purchased 514 11 lb. date boxes and delivered 116,280 dates to 2,474 Muslim inmates so that each Muslim prisoner receives three dates per day in Ramadan. This was the second year for this massive project, which took months of coordination leading to Ramadan.
MCC’s team of volunteers facilitated distribution to all prisons and jails in Northern California. We worked with Link Outside and the Islamic Shura Council of Southern California to Ramadan dates to the Los Angeles and San Diego prisons.
