Backpack & School Supply Drive

With the extra pinch on our East Bay Zakat families facing poverty, can you imagine the burden of buying backpacks and notebooks when you struggle with paying rent and providing food for your family?
Make a difference in a child’s life by joining our Girl Scouts Troop 30875 (hosted at the MCC) annual backpack drive. The supplies will be delivered to families – many whom are facing poverty – before schools start in August.
To help, visit our needs page here (mcceastbay.org/backpack-drive) and pledge for one or more backpacks. Then, go:
- Online: Select the item(s) from the Amazon wishlist (https://mcceastbay.org/wishlist). You can also use any e-retailer like Walmart, Target, etc. and ship the backpack(s) and school supplies to the MCC (5724 W. Las Positas blvd. #300, Pleasanton, CA 94588) or your home and later drop off to the MCC.
- In-Person: Purchase and bring the filled backpacks and supplies during our weekly food pantry collection from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Please place the backpack in your trunk before leaving home. Once at MCC, a volunteer will remove the items from your trunk without you leaving your vehicle.

- For preschoolers: coloring books, crayons, flashcards (numbers and alphabet)
- For KG: safety scissors, crayons, wide ruled notebook, pencils and pencil box.

Through the community’s support, last year, Girl Scouts Troop 30875 gifted 177 to families receiving Zakat charity assistance through the MCC. This was the breakdown:
- Preschoolers: 30
- Kindergarden: 22
- Grade1-3: 25 kids
- Grade 4-5: 22 kids
- Grade 6-12: 78 kids
