“My Parents Just Don’t Understand” | Post-Ramadan Parent-Teen Forum

MCC invites teens ages 13 to 19 and parents of teenagers to participate in an open forum intended to bridge the generational gap and help navigate difficult discussions, answer complex questions, and bring clarity to both groups about effective ways to communicate and encourage harmonious and mutually beneficial relationships.

6:15 p.m. to 8:20 p.m. (Asr to Maghrib) | Friday, May 20 | Free | No registration required | No babysitting provided

Our panelists included in this post-Ramadan community parenting panel are local community members Sidi Azmat Zeeshan Mukhtar, Ustadha Hosai Mojaddidi (emcee), Sr. Hina Khan-Mukhtar, Sidi Haroon Sellars, and Sidi Mahdy Amine

They each bring 40+ years of experience as both parents and educators who work closely with children and teens of all backgrounds. The parenting panel will be one joint session of teens and parents of teens; no breakout session this time for teens.

Parents and teens are invited to ask their questions, bring up their concerns, and express their feelings about any topic they wish to before the program. The speakers will try to address these issues during the panel: mcceastbay.org/questions

No dinner options are offered. Please plan on having dinner with your family prior to this important event.

Schedule:

  • 6:15 p.m. – Asr prayers (Prayer Hall)
  • 6:20 p.m. to 8:20 p.m. – Parenting panel with introductory remarks & fielding questions pre-submitted, from the live audience, and submitted from Livestream (Prayer Hall)
  • 8:20 p.m. – Maghrib prayers (Prayer Hall)

Prior to the event, the panel will review all submitted questions and do their due diligence to answer each one. They will also take live questions during the event, only if time permits. pre-submitted questions receive priority. We strongly encourage both parents and teens to submit questions ahead of time a mcceastbay.org/questions
