Join us in the MCC parking lot after Maghrib prayers on (Date TBA) for an evening of moon sighting and community gathering. Weather permitting, the Tri-Valley Stargazers will join us with telescopes to explore the night sky.
MCC will announce the confirmed start of Ramadan through our newsletter, social media, and website homepage.
When Does Ramadan Begin?
MCC will confirm the beginning of Ramadan after reviewing verified moon-sighting reports.
If the crescent moon is sighted: The first night of Taraweeh will be [CONFIRM DATE AND ISHA TIME], and the first day of fasting will be the following day.
If the crescent moon is not sighted: Sha’ban will complete 30 days, and the first night of Taraweeh and first day of fasting will be one day later.
Please check MCC’s official announcements for the confirmed dates and prayer times.
MCC observes the beginning and end of Islamic lunar months based on verified crescent moon sightings. For an explanation of this approach, watch this video by Dr. Youssef Ismail of Zaytuna College.
Du’a Upon Sighting the Crescent Moon
Allaahumma ahillahu ‘alaynaa bil-amni wal-eemaani, was-salaamati wal-islaami, wat-tawfeeqi limaa tuḥibbu watarḍaa, rabbunaa wa rabbuk-Allaah.
“O Allah, let the crescent loom above us in peace and faith, safety and Islam, and in agreement with all that You love and pleases You. Our Lord and your Lord is Allah.”
