The Crescent Zakat Fund at Stanford Children’s Hospital (Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford) supports Muslim families facing medical crises by covering critical non-medical needs, ensuring they can focus entirely on their child’s treatment
The program provides the following resources:
    • Housing Stability: Assists with temporary living arrangements (often coordinating with the Ronald McDonald House or local hotels) while the child is in care. [1]
    • Food and Nutrition: Ensures families have access to proper nutrition, including specific coverage for halal meals and utilities. [1]
    • Transportation and Connectivity: Covers travel costs and provides phone services so families can stay connected with their support networks. [1]
    • Spiritual Care: Supplies prayer rugs, Ramadan baskets, and resources to observe cultural and religious traditions within the hospital. [1]
    • Medical and Comfort Support: Provides essential medical equipment for at-home care and small gifts/toys for pediatric patients. [1]
    • Funeral and Bereavement: Offers dignified support for funeral and burial services in times of loss. [1]

The fund operates under the Islamic principle of Zakat, with 100 percent of contributions distributed directly to families in need by the hospital’s Social Services team. Since its inception, it has aided hundreds of families traveling to Stanford from across the United States and around the world. [1, 2]
