The Crescent Zakat Fund at Stanford Children’s Hospital (Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford) supports Muslim families facing medical crises by covering critical non-medical needs, ensuring they can focus entirely on their child’s treatment.
The program provides the following resources:

- Housing Stability: Assists with temporary living arrangements (often coordinating with the Ronald McDonald House or local hotels) while the child is in care. [1]
- Food and Nutrition: Ensures families have access to proper nutrition, including specific coverage for halal meals and utilities. [1]
- Transportation and Connectivity: Covers travel costs and provides phone services so families can stay connected with their support networks. [1]
- Spiritual Care: Supplies prayer rugs, Ramadan baskets, and resources to observe cultural and religious traditions within the hospital. [1]
- Medical and Comfort Support: Provides essential medical equipment for at-home care and small gifts/toys for pediatric patients. [1]
- Funeral and Bereavement: Offers dignified support for funeral and burial services in times of loss. [1]
The fund operates under the Islamic principle of Zakat, with 100 percent of contributions distributed directly to families in need by the hospital’s Social Services team.
