Mother’s Day Tea and Conversation: Motherhood as Leadership | Hina Khan-Mukhtar

Join us for a powerful and uplifting Mother’s Day event called “Motherhood as Leadership: Nurturing Faith, Community, and Spiritual Care” that honors the spiritual labor, resilience, and profound impact of mothers in our lives and communities. This special gathering will feature inspiring guest speakers Hina Khan Mukhtar, Nora Zaki, and Rukayat Yakub, who will share reflections, insights, and personal experiences centered on motherhood, faith, and well-being.

The program will include a thoughtful panel discussion exploring a range of meaningful topics, followed by an engaging Q&A session that gives attendees the opportunity to connect more deeply with the speakers. After the formal program, we invite you to unwind and build community during a relaxed social hour.

Refreshments and tea will be served as we come together in a warm and welcoming space to celebrate, reflect, and connect.

About the Speakers

Hina Khan-Mukhtar is a writer, educator, and community leader focused on parenting, faith, and nurturing Muslim identity in the West. She is a co-founder of the ILM Tree homeschooling cooperative in Lafayette, California.

Nora Zaki Mantas is a chaplain, educator, and interfaith leader engaged in Muslim community development, pastoral care, and spiritual formation, who brings important insight into how nurturing leadership shapes stronger families and healthier communities. Chaplain Nora has an MDiv and an MA in Islamic Education (2025) from Bayan. She will be joining via Zoom.

Rukayat Yakub is an award-winning children’s author, educator, publisher, trainer, consultant, and school climate coach. Her areas of expertise include addressing anti-blackness, curriculum design, Islamic Studies, and ethical wealth flow. She works with leaders to develop and implement best practices that infuse prophetic courage, kindness, and humility in community institutions. Ustadha Rukayat is a Bayan Doctoral student (2027) and has an MA in Islamic Education (2024) from Bayan.  She will be joining via Zoom.

Together, they will explore how the spiritual labor of mothers contributes to the moral and emotional health of communities and how the principles of motherhood, compassion, patience, wisdom, and resilience mirror the very foundations of spiritual and pastoral care.
