Last Friday, MCC East Bay hosted a powerful seminar, “From Shackles to the Minaret: The Legacy of Bilal,” in collaboration with Miftaah Institute.

The evening centered on the remarkable life of Bilal ibn Rabah, whose journey from slavery to becoming the first mu’adhin of Islam continues to inspire generations. Led by Shaykha Dr. Rania Awaad and Mufti Abdul Wahab Waheed, the seminar guided attendees through reflections on resilience, faith, and the honor that Islam grants every individual, leaving many moved by the depth and relevance of Bilal’s story.

The program offered more than just historical insight—it created space for meaningful reflection on how Bilal’s legacy applies to our lives today. Attendees were reminded of the power of unwavering ایمان (faith) in the face of hardship and the importance of dignity, justice, and devotion in our daily lives.
